.023" wire for small welders

I've been experimenting with a couple of thinsolid wire brands sold by Harbor Freight (made in Italy .023 wire on the label) and the HTP (Washington Alloy branded .023), because I've been helping a neighbor the last couple of weekends replace a bunch of rusted out patches in the floor area of the driver's compartment (it's been stripped bare of seats, rugs, wires). The 18 gauge steel has been a challenge with avoiding burnthroughs, but it's getting better, once I got the settings dialed in. We have a couple more weekends of welding-related work, and I have been using the two aforementioned brands of solid wire--I like the HTP/Washington Alloy brand better, because it is more consistent at the lower voltage setting. What experiences have you had and suggestions you can make with brands that have worked for you, using .023 solid wire on 18-20 gauge mild steel using C25? Thanks in advance!"
