I normally buy Hobart rods. Normally I use 6013. I've bought 1 pound and 5 pound boxes. I noticed the flux is a different color on 6013 3/32 rods depending on whether it's a 1 or 5 pound box. The 5 pound box has a brown color and the 1 pound is more of a light gray. Of the 3 beads below the first is a Hobart 6013 3/32 from a 5 lb box at 75 amps, the second is US Forge 7014 3/32 at 90 amps and the third is Hobart 6013 3/32 from a 5 lb box at 90 amps. Both the ones from Hobart with the brown flux burn really uneven. The US Forge 7014 and the Hobart 6013 with the gray flux burn nice and even, you can see I'm better with those rods in the picture compared to the Hobarts with the brown flux. I ran the 3 beads circled in red within a few minutes of each without drinking any beer or anything so I should have had the same coordination for all 3 beads I also have had okay luck with Hobart 6013 and the brown flux in 1/8 and 5/32 rods. Is there such a thing as a bad batch of electrodes? Attached Images |
