So one of the local steel shops had a bunch of old-stock Canox stick electrodes. ow long Mostly 3/16" 7010 and 7018 but a couple varieties of smaller stuff. I picked up 10lbs of 1/8" 7010 and 10lbs of 3/32 7016 for $5 each. I figured for that price, why not. Now, I've been wanting to try 6010 for a while, and figured the 7010 would be the same experience. 7016 is completely new to me, and some googling told me its basically 7018 with no iron powder in the flux.... BTW, does anyone know when the Canox name disappeared? These are some beads with the 7010. Seemed to run just like the Lincoln 6011 I have, but maybe a little rougher. Boy, does she ever dig into the base metal though! The 7016 ran smoothly (as expected), and made a thin coating of somewhat glassy slag that came off very easily. I honestly preferred running this stuff over the Lincoln Jetweld 7018 I normally use. Maybe I'll go buy a few more boxes at 50 cents a pound! |
