so my uncle is building a super nice custom bathroom. steam, fully tiled very very nice, high dollar. he wanted a bench to sit on for him and his wife to kick back and look out the window at the view of the mountains. he didnt want any legs on the bench. so i told him i could do it outta 2in x 1/4 alum angle, and the center supports are 2in 3/16 alum angle. this was the first time i have made anything out of aluminum. i also was using my lincoln idealarc 250 acdc roundtop. no high freq, scratch start ac tig. so all the joints had to be welded front and back to ensure it was rigid, im not sure the type of wood, i thinks its brazilian tiger wood. the wood needs to be stained yet but you get the idea. like i said this was my first alum project and have decided that i will not attempt to weld alum again until i get a dedicated acdc tig machine.i was very pleased with the end result, it was almost perfectly flat on the top side. maybe you guys can tell me what you would charge for fabbing something like this. its 57 wide by 15 deepMiller Syncrowave 210 w/CK FlexLoc 150  3/6/14ESAB PCM 1125 Plasma CutterAtlas 12x36 LatheACER 9x42 3hp millHarig 612 Surface GrinderDRINK Machine              welding&fabrication
Reply:Well it certainly came out well for you. Very nice.
Reply:Just for the aluminum work, depending on who it was for, materials plus $100 to $200 (that's pretty fast to put together)For an uncle I like, materials + buy me a burger and a beer I don't know what $ for wood work and installation.Looks nice Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:isn't that brazillian tiger wood gonna rot in the shower?
Reply:Rot isnt an issue. A friend used the same wood for his deck it will have a stain or sealer. I had him pay for the materials plus 150 bux to cover gas and filler grinding wheels. Plus gas to cover travel. So I didnt make really anything but that wasnt the point. However I do enjoy knowing the value of my workMiller Syncrowave 210 w/CK FlexLoc 150  3/6/14ESAB PCM 1125 Plasma CutterAtlas 12x36 LatheACER 9x42 3hp millHarig 612 Surface GrinderDRINK Machine              welding&fabrication
Reply:It looks great and well installed. Like the cool combo of metal and wood. Great job!
Reply:Originally Posted by Mick120Nice job but, if it was me, I'd have powder coated the alloy.
Reply:We were thinkin of using stainless but it woulda been about 2 or 3 times the cost in materials.....and I dont mig, im trying to get good at tig welding. I have a mig machine but I only use the tig feature of it, and currently I only use my old lincoln cause I bought a new torch.....gearing up for another welder purchase I think im getting the syncro 210...Miller Syncrowave 210 w/CK FlexLoc 150  3/6/14ESAB PCM 1125 Plasma CutterAtlas 12x36 LatheACER 9x42 3hp millHarig 612 Surface GrinderDRINK Machine              welding&fabrication
Reply:$225-$300 for labor I'd say, and a bit of markup on the materials.  Finished product looks great!  I wouldn't even have tried the wood work.-AaronJet 17.5" Drill Press1942 South Bend 16x84 Lathe1980s Miller 320A / BP --- 2013 Power Mig 2562012 Jet 7x12 Horizontal BandsawVictor O/A Setup
