Hi Guys,Not sure if anyone is into the food industry fabrication, but was hoping to pick someone's brains on this. I'm trying to make a Stove top milk steamer for the lady friend. I know they can be bought, but would much rather make it. Now these vary in shape and size, but this is a basic one:To something as complicated as this:I would prefer to get closer to the look of the second one, and integrate a pressure guage, and an easy push down open valve, and I'll most likely just buy a good wand so I don't have to worry about machining the tip, and seems like there's alot to do with the tip on these applications. My questions are, what would be good places to source some of these component, and what would be the best idea to use for making the main pot out of. Needs to hold about 1.5bar (about 21psi) of pressure.Owner at: www.re-speed.comLike us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/respeed

Reply:That would be a coppersmith/tinsmith job. You can buy or order brass, copper or whatever metal you decide from your steel supplier. If you have a bigger distributor.  The tube could be tig welded or machined to fit all your parts. Braze or solder depending on how traditional you feel. That would be a fun project if you had plenty of time. By the time you finish it  you'll have upwards of $25 thousand invested in labor and advil/Tylenol. or take bayer asprin case you have a heart attack from the stress that things going to put on you. Reply:i do a lot of kitchen repair work and food service mgrs over the years are always asking me to build stainless food contraptions. what i tell them and am suggesting to you is unless you have a roller to avoid sharp inside corners where it's difficult to clean properly watch out.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:While I can't help with parts sourcing for you, I can toss in a few pointers. That second shot is not a stand alone steamer, but an old style hand press espresso maker with a steam function as well. You would be better off machining the steamer wand yourself, if you have the ability, and radius the transition between the end and the tubing so it looks like a tear drop...otherwise you'll be forever nitpicking with a wet rag to get the dried milk crud off the wand at the typical non-radiused transition before sticking it in the next milk/milk coffee concoction. Add a pressure relief to the top as it is steam you'll be working with. I start each day with my 1/2 liter of espresso...the same as I've been doing since '85.Lincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.

Reply:I'm aware that the second one isn't just a stand alone, I actually just put it in there, for showing the esthetics's that I prefer going for. Can you show me a picture of what you mean by the tear drop? I plan to make a pressure relief much like how a manual boost controller work in a vehicle. This one boost controller that I did, same idea, except everything would be with stainless steel or brass/copper and obviously wouldn't be attached by hose?   Originally Posted by WyoRoyWhile I can't help with parts sourcing for you, I can toss in a few pointers.
