Notching a pipe

What is a easy way to notch a pice of pipe, to fit up to a nother pipe??My pipe is 1 3\4, i am just testing my fit-up .I have a hobart 250ci, cut off wheel, and a chop saw.  Thanks
Reply:The easy way is with a pipe notcher. Someone posted up a good home made one not long ago on a thread about notching SS tube with plasma. HF sells some cheap ones also.There are programs on the web that will let you print out a paper wrap around that you can trace onto pipe. If you have a bunch to do, I'd recommend cutting the template out of thin plastic rather than paper. The plastic report covers will work well for this.You can cut 2 angles and then start grinding. This works OK for 90's but angles are harder. You don't set the saw at 45 deg, Something like 30deg (I forget exactly now) works better since the "point" is more blunt.Doing pipe angles for crane lacing, we use a mill with a special jig to set angles at the shop. In the field, we usually cut the pipe square at the angle needed and long, then rough out the cope by eye and grinding to fit by hand. After a few dozen or so it gets easier..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Check out pipesaddlelayout.com; on this small pipe you should be able to use the "Pipe Saddle" calculator....and the 0..8 layout values in the gold background should be plenty accurate.  You probably have seen how to divide the pipe by making a wrap around the pipe with adding machine paper...marking a line at a full wrap...then making 4-folds in the paper giving you a 16-division wrap-a-round.DNC
Reply:A bi-metal hole saw, drill extension , a pipe vice is handy but you can cobble everything with a bit of imagination. I used a 1/2 inch dewalt 18v drill. Attached Images
Reply:there is a neat calculator program free on the web called Snip..sawing notch in pipe.. any angle, any size pipe..with 2 straight cuts..no hole saw needed..
