Reply:"Longevity and Everlast DONT match up to Miller. Period. "And you are speaking from your own knowledge as an owner..........or just some comments you have read.....???? There are a great many who actually have owned and used Everlast welders for years who would disagree. He was asking about a beginning tig welder. I am not a promoter of Everlast, and have no real stake in them, but comments like yours, unless you KNOW what you are talking about seem thoughtless.Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma

Reply:As a TIG beginner, myself I bought the (better?) Harbor Freight (usually $400) unit.It does TIG and stick. But it is ONLY DCEN, up to 165 amps and no regulator. Once I T'd my MIG's gas supply to both machines, I was able to experiment freely with TIG techniques. When I feel my TIG skills are sufficient, I will spend the $1,500.00 and buy a good TIG setup that will hold me for many years. After several hours of practice with the TIG torch, my MIG skills have improved tremendosly! So, go cheep (low quality or used) for now. Expect to spend serious bucks when you are ready.Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A

Reply:Stick with LINCOLN , HOBART ,or MILLER. RED , WHITE, and BLUE ! Sellers in my area try to get NEW prices for used MILLER'S. New Miller pricing may vary by location and from different suppliers. Is this gonna be your first welding machine ? If so, maybe consider a tig and stick machine. The Miller 200 syncro, the NEW 210 syncro, or a used 180 SD. It depends on what type of welding and material you will be working with.

This way, you can talk to ppl that own the units & give you a direct opinion of what their experiences are.Because of past experience with the importers in the sponsored section, a lot of members here don't have a very high opinion of these machines or the ppl who sell them.Good luck with it.

Reply:This thread is all sorts of awesome.Thermal Arc 186 AC/DCHobart Handler 125My dad always told not to skimp on tools they are an investment. If you ever come on hard times it is easier to sell a name brand and they hold their value. You can look at CL every day and see all of the used HF welders and tools they don't have a re sale market. On a another note if you plan. on building your skills you need a machine with a duty cycle and a following of other users to help you along the way with trouble shooting. I my self own a red square wave 175 tig machine and love it. It has never let me down. Now I would not have a problem with having an x brand machine in the corner just in case my red machine quit or I got biz and needed someone to help weld up parts or to take to the track and weld up broken race cars. You just don't want to spend money on a machine that you will out grow
