What amperage would you guys runa 3/32 7018 on 1/8 plate vertical up? or could I use 3/32 or 1/8 6013 down hill?Miller Dialarc 250Miller Bobcat 225Hobart Oxy/FuelCouple of Dewalt and Milwaukee GrindersJET Bandsaw and Drill Press
Reply:A lot of variables to call out an amp. I would probably use 1/8".
Reply:6013 downhill okay?Miller Dialarc 250Miller Bobcat 225Hobart Oxy/FuelCouple of Dewalt and Milwaukee GrindersJET Bandsaw and Drill Press
Reply:3/32" 7018 I'd run about 90-100 amps roughly vertical up.6013 downhill would not be my choice for anything but thin sheet metal..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:1/8” thick material, I'd use 1/8” 6010 or 6011 vertical down hill.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:1/8" thick is a bit thin for running vertical up with 7018. It's doable with 3/32 rod but you will have a hard time running vertical up on 1/8 thick steel with 1/8 7018 rod. Myself, I'd run vertical down with 3/32 7018 but if your inexperienced with stick welding, this can be a challenge.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720

Reply:Up hill with 3/32" wouldn't be too hard on 1/8" plate but down hill with anything other than 6010/6011, like CEP suggested, wont have much strength. You should lose 6013 from your vocabulary unless you do thin sheet metal. 7014 is a better choice. Down hill with 6010/11 isn't too hard to do. Just whip the rod a little while progressing down hill.
Reply:I was saying 1/8" 7018 for the up but I would like to change it to CEP's suggestion. It is nice down.

Reply:i like DSW suggestions the best, but for me, i'd want 75- 80 amps.    The type of joint, and volume of material c ould be a factor.    try to stich it, or move around

Reply:I think I would enjoy watching someone try to run 3/32 7018 uphill on 1/8" at anything over 90amps. But like Welder Dave said, the dial is just a starting point, watch the puddle. Reply:A little slower and need about 70 amps but would work.
Reply:I agree, it will work and it is more forgiving than the 7018. did you already say what the joint is?www.facebook.com/gstreetworksLincoln Power Mig 210 Miller Maxstar 150Lincoln Idealarc 250/250 G Street Works LLC
Reply:7014 vertical down makes a pretty weld for me. Not sure how strong, but looks good.

Reply:make sure you have a lot of tacks on before you start welding because that thin material will pull quite a bit. Good luck!www.facebook.com/gstreetworksLincoln Power Mig 210 Miller Maxstar 150Lincoln Idealarc 250/250 G Street Works LLC
Reply:Hi, For anything 1\8 or thinner I always do it downhill, with either a 3/32 or 1/8 7014  The current range usually around 90 amps or 115 for the 1/8 But I find being out in the rural area the Hydro current is always changing the volts drop when there is more demand, Evenings and early mornings welder needs to be turned up a little.  I have a very simple technique for downhill that works very well for me.  Just hold the rod pointing slightly up  Move straight across   Then a small 1/2 circle Up above that bead and push the puddle upwards and repeat the process straight across agaln  When I see the plate red hot on the back  I'm sure the penetration must be o/k   Try this  it works great for me.  Josey
Reply:Hey guys thanks for yalls recommendations, I figured out a way to weld it with 3/32 7018 in a horizontal fillet but thanks anyway!Miller Dialarc 250Miller Bobcat 225Hobart Oxy/FuelCouple of Dewalt and Milwaukee GrindersJET Bandsaw and Drill Press

Reply:If your ever gonna be good, you gotta learn to weld.....Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024
