Has anyone made their chopsaw into a swivel head saw? I am tired of swinging stock around the shop. I have a Milwaukee Dry Cut saw and would love to make it swivel.Dynamic MetalworksMontrose, CODynMetalworks.com
Reply:Me too. No good ideas yet though.
Reply:I have to agree, swinging the stock around or making a square cut to length and then an extra step to add the miter is kinda a waste of time. But it seems to be how they are all made. Reply:Mikita made a swivel head cutoff saw in the 70s. Made out of cast iron too. I have one and it's great. The only thing I've ever done is clean it up once in a while and replace blade. With the design of cutoff saws now why not make a swivel base to mount the saw on and turn the whole saw. You would have to change the clamp angle but that should be quicker and easier than moving a long joint of material.Last edited by Oldtimer; 02-11-2010 at 01:11 PM.

Reply:KBC Tools use to sell them, they still might. But it is a small saw at 4.5" cutting capacity at 90deg. Larger saws don't have the capability do to the weight of the 'head unit'(?). or because there are extras that make it difficult to swing the head unit around.Just found this...http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...1568_200331568

Reply:Use one of the 8" square swivels for bass boat seats. They are quite strong and cheap too.

Reply:I made one for myself. The base plate and vice are stationary and the blade rotates about a point directly below the blade and inline with the vice, like a wood cutting miter saw. This idea could be adapted to just about any chop saw I think. Attached Images
Reply:it is an annoying problemI'm ready to start a cut table thingy for my chop saw, but can't mount the saw permanently because the thingy is gonna be outsideBest I can do is make a large enough base to turn the saw on and clamp it if necessary"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
