buying 7024 rod

Any suggestions as to brands and mailorder suppliers?For routine dc welding on non-critical steel parts.                               -Marty-

Reply:Dave, thanks for the links.I like 7024 because it lays down such pretty strings.  Also, it seems to be slightly less neurotic about storage conditions than 7018.  No experience with 7014.                -Marty-

Reply:7014 vs 70247024 I like - it likes to be dry, but isn't as fussy about storage as 7018.7014 I have not tried.  Any reason to prefer it over 7024?  How do the two rods differ?  Is that correct about "no storage problems"?  Sounds as though I ought to be giving 7014 a shot.
Reply:I've only played with 7014 a little bit. Never seen it on a structural job. You have to lay it over like 7024 to force the slag behind the puddle. Reply:7024 has more iron powder in the coating and as a result is more fluid, hence the XX2X designation as a flat / horizontal filet only rod. Up side is that because of the extra iron, it lays down more material than 7014 does.7014 is the all position "version" of 7024. It takes a slight bit more skill to run, but not much if you get the machine set up right as far as flat. Vertical can be a bit tougher, but it's really no harder than 7018 is..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear.
