Reply:The thickness of the expanded steel is 14 ga. Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkLincoln Pro Mig 180HF Stick/Tig Inverter WelderLincoln AC225s
Reply:Thicker would be better but 14ga may be OK. I would go back and add tube or angle around the bottom so that if the bottom does bow at least it won't create a big gap.

Reply:A frame of 3/4" angle around the perimeter of the bottom with a single 3/4" flat strap in the center will hold it ok. I make charcoal baskets for smokers using 1/2" square tubing rolled into a circle & the expanded metal welded directly to the rolled tubing. Works great & little warping of the expanded metal.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build

Reply:I have been using a 14g expanded metal mild steel charcoal tray for 4 yrs, no issues of warping or burb through. Mine sits in a 1in angle frame unwelded for easy replacement. Sent from my SPH-M830 using Tapatalk
