In class I'm doing MIG with Dual Shield.......I'm having issues that no one seems to be able to diagnose.......I'm getting worm tracks and pin holes, often times while inside of a groove, and occasionally on flat surfacing too.......I have changed gas pressure..... torch angle...... torch speed........ wire feed speed........ volts......... stick out length......... etc......Nothing seems to be the golden ticket........Any ideas based on these pics...........Flare bevel pics and plate with 30 degree bevel and backing strap pics.......Gas anywhere from 20 up to 35..........Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:A lot of times it can be too much voltage. But more than likely the wire has picked up some moisture, put the roll of wire in an oven over night, I'll bet the problem goes away. Reply:The flux picks up moisture and then it runs like $hitDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:x2.  Could be moisture in the wire or too much voltage.  What's the wire manufacturer's recommended voltage for your 310 IPM of wire feed speed?  Does it happen with every weld bead?Do you have bug hole porosity with solid wire too?  If so, maybe a leak in your shielding gas supply.  Oxygen and Nitrogen getting into the shielding gas from the atmosphere will give you porosity and worm-tracking as well.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector

Reply:Thanks for the ideas..... I'll recommend that the wire be changed out...... it has rained a lot lately and so that is a very good possibility.........All of my other welds with other wires run great........ no issues.......I'll get a new roll on the machine Monday............ it's totally worth it to figure out if that's the issue.....thanks.........Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:best settings I have found on the power migs for running fluxcore or dual shield and I see it called a lot on here is 325 and 23.6 what brand wire are you using?
Reply:Moisture/rust/contaminants on the wire is usually the issue, as was told to me by a test administrator. It happened to me, on a test day, doing an 18" corner joint. Ruined my day. I switched the spool out with a brand new one and it ran fine afterwards. Still busted the test though. No do-overs. =\ So yeah. Switch your wire. Give the old spool to the instructor.

Reply:The settings are fine if you look at the welds. I've run anywhere between 350-425ipm and 21-27v on this old lincoln. Seems to change every time I use it.

Reply:Try changing out the diffuser and/ or the nozzleseabee78
Reply:Step a use Lincoln  Esab is crap we had 40 tons of bad coreshield 8 on the trade center. B set to mfg settings mid scale check with meters at the gun block ,dont believe meters on feeders or power supplies . Good luck.

Reply:moisture in the wire is your most likely culprit if your voltage is rightMiller Xmt 350Lincoln Ln-25Ahp 200xSmith Gas Mixer AR/HTig is my Kung FuThrowing down dimes and weaving aboutInstagram http://instagram.com/[email protected]
Reply:Did you get this issue sorted? I had a similar problem recently with a suitcase machine @ work, I traced it to a loose flare fitting on the gas line. Other than those worm tracks your welds look real good, keep it up!
Reply:Crud from not cleaning the workpieces, moisture in the flux, or as the ESAB article also mentions, running stringer beads with an 'all-position' wire that freezes too fast and has trapped gas still in it.Clean the workpiece before welding, use 'fresh' or properly stored wire (think 7018 fresh out of a can versus some 'old' moisture-exposed crap), and try a slight weave manipulation (cursive 'e' or such) instead of a straight stringer bead (keeps the puddle hotter a little bit longer and may give enough time for the trapped gases/crud to 'float' out.)  The best laid schemes ...
