Gday all, pretty few and far between when i post on here, but i do like to when i come up with something im happy with and want to show off, or when i need inspiration or information.I made this stool as a prototype bar stool that i plan t be making a short run of, this one was a bit of a rush job so the finish isnt the best but you can get an overall idea where im coming from. The legs are 12mm solid round that I cut to length, welded and then ground to a point to get a real sharp aesthetic. The thread is M50 and roughly 300mm long, this also acts as a means to raise and lower the height. The top is 40mm thick leftover timber from my mates kitchen renovation.I managed to pick up about 50odd of the nut and thread setups, i saw potential and the price was a steal so was too good to pass up. I plan on making more stools and furniture utilising the bolts, would love some ideas if any of yous are willing to share, furniture related or otherwise.Anyhows, heres the pics
Reply:I like BUT if I sit on it it's going down! LOL
Reply:I think I'd want a bit more of a radius on the wooden top of the stool myself. I'm also curious how stable it is if someone sits on the edge of the stool..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:rbadger86Good eye for the potential of the salvage.Your concept is flush.I see two apparent design refinements: leg girth, and leg to nut joint.Your design is so simple/pure, that the 'bling' is in the weld joint.Invest in making the weld joint 'a design feature'.OpusLast edited by OPUS FERRO; 01-01-2014 at 12:50 AM.

Reply:I like the idea!  I've been thinking about getting some acme thread rod and make a stool...never occurred to me to just use regular thread rod.Well done!KevKevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio
Reply:If i were to make a few more i definately think i would have to add some  sort of reinforcing to the joint, possibly another bar between the legs themselves.

Reply:If you put a ring around the three legs it would make the legs much stronger and give you a foot rest at the same time.Mike
Reply:Same design (general) as Jody, from welding tips and tricks. He has a video of it on Youtube. I like the design, but if a heavy person were to sit on it, i could see issues.
Reply:Ring is a good idea for legs. You could use chain links too.

Reply:Couple more pics, keep in mind this was a prototype and was a rush job, i arc welded all the joints with some dodgy electrodes i had lying around, i do plan to either tig or mig the joints if i make more.

Reply:How about a piece of the round stock you used as legs across the area between the legs connecting them to each other about half way up?
Reply:I wonder how it would be to weld the round legs to the FLAT Sides on the nut instead of the bottom.
Reply:The more I look at it, that is a SERIOUS chunck of thread rod...how did you come about that?KevKevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio

Reply:Those bolts would make excellent adjustable stands for the shop. But if the stool brings in the $.
