I'm sure most do for the convenience of sharing with family and friends but why do so many insist on using links to Photobucket and other online photo storage when posting photos to threads?  When the author deletes them, moves them to another folder or cancels their membership, the reference photos are lost forever from the thread and a reader can no longer benefit from viewing them. The WW process isn't that complicated and by simply downloading a photo or two from the online storage to ones hard drive and then using the "manage attachments" feature to upload photos to a thread will assure they'll remain for all to see and enjoy long after the online location is gone.IMOMM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Up until recently (yesterday) I thought the only way I could post a photo to WW was by using photobucket or similar. I hate using it to post pictures and trying to view old threads with no pictures.
Reply:Duane, you should post a write-up/how-to on it, and get it stickied, I too consider myself well-versed in the internet and have never heard of this. However I leave all my photos on photobucket because you never know when you'll need 'em.Bruce
Reply:Good point! Lets hope the photobucketers will cooperate
Reply:I agree! I've been going through all past threads in this section and there have been many times I was disappointed when there were no pictures...

Reply:Most forums take ownership of any photos you upload to them. Photobucket and other hosting sites do not do this. Much as I like forums like this I'm not giving them my photos, if I get upset and leave I'm taking as much content as I can with me, it helps forums to remember who they exist for and who they have to keep happy, us as members.Mr. HE
Reply:What I would like to see is a better, more clear option on forums. This is my idea. When you link to photobucket, have a forum background process MOVE the photo at an appropriate resolution to the forum. Many forums I use have no method to provide a picture other than a url.  Most folks will just link it.I have never tried the file://C:\MyPictures\picture.jpg or proper syntax.  I am a tired, retired Systems Engineer for Hardware,Software and Process, and don't like to think about it anymore.
Reply:If I remember right you can actually upload from photobucket. Maybe not but seems like it. Been a long time since I've been there. Got a bunch of pics over there somewhere. All computer storage is so huge anymore no need to use some place else."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:I generally use photobucket to host because forums are a pain. Generally, forum owners try to limit bandwith and cap picture sizes or put odd restrictions on attachments.  Not necessarily here, but plenty of sites do this.  I get annoyed and trying to figure out every sites attachment 'rules' and it's just easier to hotlink from my own account.  Plus, then my photos are in one central location.
Reply:Yeah I've seen that with smaller forums. Guys try and keep the picts down to maximize storage on the server. That doesn't seem to be as big a problem now as it was a few years back though. Luckily we don't have that issue here..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:It mainly seems to be with hobbies/jobs that have a higher percentage of 'technologically handicapped' individuals....those that still have 12" monitors and dial-up modems.
Reply:I keep all my pics on my hard drive and resize w/ microsoft powertoys "picture resizer". It's very easy to use.                                       MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:Well I tried to put a picture in my post but the option of from "My Computer" button or whatever it was is missing.  And hey Duane you need to clean out your PM box.  Unless it's by design; then I completely understand.
Reply:I use to have to do it but I didn't last week.  Now it won't let me upload from my home PC?
Reply:Well, it made a liar out of me.............it's back now.
Reply:Here's the button I was talking about.  It was gone, but now it's back.  But Duane your inbox is still full.
Reply:Pipeliner, thanks for pointing out that elusive button.  Lots better than futzing around with Photoscape, et al.
Reply:I don't know why it wasn't there an hour ago but I'm glad it's there now.

Reply:Okay... So today I was "formulating" a reply to a topic, and I was hoping to link/use relevant pictures that I know I had previously parked/posted/referenced (some at least several times) at WW. As usual I went to my profile where I usually pull up previously posted/parked  attachments, and WA-LA! it sez "no photos" So I'm pondering where my pictures are and how to  pull 'em up? Maybe I need to learn some new MO that wasn't necessary previously?Which brings us to the original topic, that being, as others mentioned, if  photo's aren't accessible when their "owner" would like to use them, then maybe WW isn't the best place to park 'em?Happy New YearLast edited by denrep; 01-01-2014 at 03:34 PM.
Reply:Happy New Year to you too denrep.Don't know the answer to your missing photos but do remember an incident (server crash) that occurred a couple years ago when a bunch of photos were lost and you for one reposted some.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!Originally Posted by denrepOkay... Reply:Originally Posted by Matt_Maguire Checked my profile too & no pics there. However if you answer a post or start a thread & go to attach a pic another window will pop up with all your uploaded pics. At least it did for me. You can browse the WW stored pics or upload more from home at that point.Good luckMatt
