Local guy is selling a Hossfeld bender with "3 buckets of dies". Everything has a decent amount of rust on it, but nothing that looks too serious. All I see in the pics is a cluster of metal parts, but I see a lot of similar parts listed on Hossfeld's website for the "School & Shop set up". What's a good offer, or should I even offer anything? Here are the pictures he posted, I don't think everything is pictured:I figure worst case scenario, if he lets it go cheap, I could sand blast everything, repaint it, and sell it, right? Reply:These are amazing benders. There are 2 basic models #1 and #2 you can tell by the main pin size. I think the small one #1 uses a 3/4 inch pin and the #2 uses a 1 inch. The big one will bend 2 inch pipe by hand with some muscle. 20 years ago the shop i worked in had one and it got used lots. They are american made and still available
Reply:Not a lot Hossfeld in those shot other than the basic bender frame, arm, handle and very few dies, bits and pieces...and some of them are repetitious. Second shot is comical with the forged lifting eye, Ford/John Deere wrench, a few dies, a lot of pins and a mess of scrap off the shop floor. Pass unless actual dies show up. Now, what actually are you looking to do with a Hossfeld bender? Great tool, but not always the best solution for particular bending jobs. They will do many more operations than most other benders, but it doesn't mean they will do that work as quickly, easily or repeatably as some of the others on the market. Before you shell out the cash, make sure that a Hossfeld is what you want because once you begin buying the die sets you're more or less chained to the bender.Last edited by WyoRoy; 03-23-2015 at 05:18 PM.Lincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.

Reply:I have a basic #1 bender and could count on both hands how many times I used it in the past 30 yrs.... If your going to bend pipe buy a dedicated pipe bender......Need alot of "machine time" to learn to bend stuff on a Hossfield .....IMHO |
