There is a blackface on Kijiji (canada) running and looks to be in good condition, he isn't sure on the year but says its 70s. All sheet metal and parts are there. He says it does need some work but he is only asking 1000 and is very flexible on the price.Seem like a good deal?
Reply:Its worth a look. Seems to be the average price in Ontario for older SA's in that shape.
Reply:Just a word of caution. If it's an octagon barrel machine, it will not weld like a round barrel machine. It's just another welding machine. Reply:Will a Blackface weld as good as a Redface or Short hood if you change out the aluminum shunt coils out for new copper ones or will just be the same as it was with Aluminum shunt coils when it was new? I'm working on a 1980 (code 8244) machine. Are the innerpoles, and series coils also Aluminum in the Octagon barrel machines?SA 200s : 1944 1945 1963 1965 1969 1981 SA 250 D3.152 DC only2004 Ranger 10,000Lincoln Pro Mig 135Miller Load BankHobart GPB 258 PipelinerHobart GPB 261 MainlinerHobart Airforce 250Everlast PA 200st
Reply:Hi CEP, Your 74' blackface has to be the first year they added the amp meter to the face plate, and moved the lead studs under the hood. My 73' (code 7214) has the octagon barrel, R-57 idler, and lead studs on face plate. Almost looks like my 69' redface except for the round barrel, and a generator charging system. Could it be possible that Lincoln used Copper coils in my 73', even though it has the octagon barrel. I think Gizzardgutzs has the same exact machine as mine. I was told that some of the early octagon barrel machines started out using all copper then later on started using aluminum as a cost reduction in the mid 70's models where they had more failures.SA 200s : 1944 1945 1963 1965 1969 1981 SA 250 D3.152 DC only2004 Ranger 10,000Lincoln Pro Mig 135Miller Load BankHobart GPB 258 PipelinerHobart GPB 261 MainlinerHobart Airforce 250Everlast PA 200st

Reply:Im currently a third year welder and want to practice  pipe for my upcoming final school year. I have a syncrowave  180 in my shop for home practice  but would like something  with adjustable arc force. Also would like to do some field repairs on  the side.Miller Dynasty Dx 200Miller bobcat 250Esab Miniarc 161
Reply:All SA200's are very good machines..just some like redfaces and short hoods are exceptional machines.
Reply:I know it will hurt the old wallet, at first! But you'll be surprised how much money you can make with a welder! In 1982 I paid $9,378.00 for this set up. Made nothing but money with it. Sold it in 1995 for $4,500.00. I would look for the best price on one of these. It will hurt at first, but then the money just rolls in!http://lincolnelectric.com/en-us/Equ...olnElectric%29 Attached ImagesDon’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:iongar:IF you are not in too much of a hurry, wait a bit, the weather hasn't quite changed yet and based on late fall last year, there are several others in the local area that will likely come back up "for sale" (I don't own any of them), that price is good, fully "restored" ones are about 3x that here, a couple others needed some smaller amounts of work (typically carb rebuild) and there was another 1969 the person was selling as a Miller model.  All could have been sold but my experience tells me they just took the ads down due to little action.
Reply:I'm thinking ill pick it up and do some work to it. If a redface pops up for a decent price ill buy that and sell this one. For the price i'm paying for it i can always part it out worst case scenario for a small profit.
Reply:I don't know why you're telling us about this welder that's for sale and not telling us about the welder that you bought and are now fixing up. In my neighborhood you'd be telling your buddies about the machine that got away and I'd be showing off my new machine. Don't get caught up in the general ball of crap about copper / red face / short hood. This machine in proper tune with regular maintenance will serve you well for a long time and make you lots of money for well less than $9k. Lots of these machines are on the job every day. If you just can't live with out a round barrel then take a word of advice. If your only into this machine for less than $2k, when you find your round barrel I would keep this as a back up machine in case you ever need one or if you need to hire a hand you will have a good machine that's field ready. Good luck with what should already be your new machine. In case your wondering I have a red/blue, 250D, Classic1, SAE400, and if I lived up there I'd own that one also.
Reply:$1000 or less is a good deal. For someone just starting out and wanting something that will weld pipe, it will do it better with 6010 than any electric machine in a test booth.

Reply:Well i bought it,600 bucks. Runs like a top. Have already changed the oil and am going to change the coolant. All of the higher amperage wire is new, just the wires running to the starter are old. Needs a new battery box area due to rust and new side covers but otherwise is all there.
Reply:Very good buy.  If the rear main seal doesn't leak its a h*ll of a buy.

Reply:Great buy, curious, are you mounting it on truck or trailer?Tough to tell from original ad...it looked like it had been removed from some sort of welding skid...
