Miller 211 using solid wire and 75/25, settings 7/7 with 27cfh on 1/4 steel. The first three we're using the push method and the last one I tried dragging it. I am getting a lot of deposit and build up on and in the tip to where I am cleaning it in between every weld. I am aware that I am getting a lot of porosity and was wondering if somehow I have clogged the gas ports on the gun and if there is a good way to check and clean. Any input is welcomed no matter how harsh. Thanks.Last edited by Casa; 11-06-2013 at 06:52 PM.

Reply:The beads don't look too bad, just need to fix the porosity. Check every hose and connection for leaks, also try higher flow to see if it helps.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:It's the regular miller gun that came with the unit, is there any way to actually check flow out of the gun.
Reply:Put it up real close to your ear and pull the trigger. If it hisses steady it should be good enough not to have porosity. DONT POKE YOUR EAR !!Miller trailblazer301gLincoln sa200Miller251Miller spectrum 625Victor oxy-acc2002 Chevy duramax 3500 dually 4x4

Reply:Checked for leaks and I cannot find any, I have had the same bottle of gas since last year this time and it has been through a Montana winter and summer. I will try and get some fresh gas, as for the build up in the nozzle what causes it. The base metal used had been ground clean.Last edited by Casa; 11-07-2013 at 12:40 AM.
Reply:I know two people who had their gun pull out from it's correct position. If yours is, just push it back in and tighten. The flow checkers, like listed above, eliminate guesswork in cases like this. They slip over the tip and measure the actual flow.I use mine to check tig and mig flow rates before welding for the day.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Flow meter ordered. Thanks for the input guys.
Reply:Casa - as already pointed out, be sure you check that the gun is fully seated. I had this problem with not enough gas on my 211. Push it until the end of the liner is almost touching the drive roller. You could post a quick picture and we will move on to another potential problem, but I would not be surprised if you can still push it back just a little. I don't know why it is so hard to get seated, but it is.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com
Reply:I have double checked all connections and there are no leaks. I picked up another cylinder today got it home and there was not more than 20 pounds registering on my regulator. I hooked up a different regulator to it and it showed about 15 pounds. The outside temperature is mid 40's. Am I crazy or did I exchange for an empty tank.
Reply:Additionally are cylinders temperature sensitive.
Reply:Cylinders are not temp sensitive to any large extent. You got an empty. Happens to a lot of people - they will switch you out again in the a.m. - sucks though. Some guys bring a regulator with cause it has happened more than once to them.Edit: wait, how to you read 15 and 20 lbs? My high pressure side is in 100 lb increments I believe.Post a pic of your tank/regulator set-up while connected.Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 11-07-2013 at 07:51 PM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:I took the regulator off and turned it on the see if there was anything in it and it looks as though I spent what little was in it to begin with, below is a pic. The only thing that even register is the flow and I have it cranked to the max. Sorry for the poor picture. I'm just going to have to take my regulator with me next time. Reply:We'll I took the new/empty tank back to American welding gas in Butte MT and told them that they had sold me an empty tank. I was questioned about my regulator and told them that I had hooked two different regulators up to it. With a sceptical look they reluctantly brought me another smaller tank (27lbs) as a trade in instead of the (32lbs) that I had originally brought them which was no big deal. I plugged in my regulator and that too was empty. At this point I began to get incredibly irritated because had I not brought my regulator I would be forced to have played the same game and waste more time. Finally I was brought a tank that had 1500lbs in it. Got it home and it is welding better than my capabilities, below is a picture after a six pack which explains the swerve. I thank you all for your help and please tell me if there is anything that I could be doing better. |
