Reply:id fix it. drop the craddle, engine and all to get it outta the way. tack it up and wrap whole damn thing in 3/16 plate. charge him $1500.
Reply:Just do this. It makes the car handle better.
Reply:LOl..We all know i can be done and done properly . Cost effective? no. And as Dave said, the rest of the car must match rust wise ...so...unless you're in love with the car and money is no object, scrap the dam thing.

Reply:Sure, it "can" be fixed. But for how long? And if it breaks, you could be in deep water if it causes a crash. I would pass.
Reply:That's actually a pretty easy fix, 5 minutes tops! Just remove the front and rear number plates and bolt a new car in between them Cheers AndrewWIA 270amp Mig Transtig 200 AC/DC Tig/stickHypertherm PM45

Reply:I'm a welding newbie, but in my experience with automotive/trades in general, when a project really matters and you have to ask if it can be fixed, you aren't experienced enough to do the job.People with 25 year experience in custom auto shops would charge a couple thousand for a job like that if they would even be willing to risk fixing it.
Reply:I've seen worse rust damage fixed; however the jobs took the better part of a year. One car was a 60's Porsche the other a 50's Alfa Romeo. Even then, the work cost more money and time than the cars were worth monetarily. I've seen certain types do temporary fixes to such damage with a come along but I've also read news reports where such measures resulted in fiery death. One such instance was a clapped out minivan a father was driving alone in when it veered off the road, hit a tree and exploded while his family watched from their rental car.The switch from body on frame to unibody construction has made nearly every part of a car's frame necessary for it to function. That picture is another reason to make sure your jounce bumpers are in good condition. Otherwise your control arms will rest on the cross member, the spring rate goes to infinity and the car becomes relatively uncontrollable. But if the little rubber bumper is still there, you still have a bit of give when hitting that pothole right in the middle of the road.I'd like to see better measures to improve the safety of cars on the street. Newer fees seem only for emissions or just high registration costs. Unfortunately it would wind up like other countries where every few years you need to pay for a ridiculously expensive inspection after the car is a certain age and your car's future is in the hands of a power hungry bureaucrat with issues. Just say no to all automotive work and your better off. Leave it to the body shops who do it every day and carry the insurance to pay for when the car splits in half and goes off the road into whatever your favorite worst case scenario may be.

Reply:No big deal to fix, have welded these for over 30 years, started doing Chevettes in the 80's,still do the odd 96-2000 Caravan. They are so well known to rust out ,that Chrysler even makes a replacement piece,(although it's more of a cover),
