I have most of the design for a (manual) cutting table done, but one thing that I don't know is what would be the best spacing for the slats.I just got a Hypertherm 45 last month and have never used one on a table grid.  What do you recommend for the on center or between slat spacing?  I can see many different size projects being cut in the future, from very small to large.   It runs the entire gamut.   the ideal is to be able to remove every other slat to make it more friendly for oxy cutting too.The drawing as it sits now is 1.25" center to center with a grid size of 29" x 20.  1/8 X2" slats   As soon as this final question is figured out, I can go buy the steel this week and get to building.Thanks.Victor Oxy weld/cut Setup Meco Midget Torch outfitEverlast 2016 250EX & Power Cool W300Lincoln Power mig 210MP  w/amptrol and Spool GunEverlast Powerarc 200 Hypertherm Powermax 45Bandsaw, Lathe, grinders, press, Bridgeport, etc.
Reply:I run a Torchmate table at work that has 2"x1/4" slats spaced 3". I'm building a small cutting table for home use that is about 18" x 24" and the slats are 1"x1/4" and spaced 1.5". The small spacing is good for small projects and they can be removed for larger stuff. You might want to bump up the thickness of the slats because you'll get more life out of them. You mention using a grid but I would just run the slats one way kind of like this http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...-cutting-tableTOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:Thanks for the info.   Yeah,  I said grid, but it is simply straight slats.  You use 1/4' slats?  I never even thought about going that thick.Victor Oxy weld/cut Setup Meco Midget Torch outfitEverlast 2016 250EX & Power Cool W300Lincoln Power mig 210MP  w/amptrol and Spool GunEverlast Powerarc 200 Hypertherm Powermax 45Bandsaw, Lathe, grinders, press, Bridgeport, etc.
Reply:Here is one that i built I think the spacing is 2 in"
Reply:See if you can find or make some of the cones that fit over your slats. Handy and saves your slats. 1 1/2" o.c. is what I use.Arcon Workhorse 300MSPowcon 400SMTPowcon SM400 x 2Powcon SM3001968 SA200 Redface1978 SA250 DieselMiller Super 32P FeederPre 1927 American 14" High Duty LatheK&T Milwaukee 2H Horizontal MillBryan
Reply:Check with your local scrap metal yard for bar grating. 1-8 inch by 1 inch works well, 36 inch wide is standard.Miller xmt304,  Miller S22 p12, Miier Maxstar SD, Miller 252 w 30A, Miller super32p12, Lincoln Ranger 9, Thermal Arc 181I with spoolgun, Hypertherm 10000 ,Smith torches. Reply:Thanks for the advice, everyone.  I decided to change the slat thickness to 3/16" and spacing to 1-3/8 between slats, giving close to 1.5" on center. Here is the design:The table is 43" X 26" ,   2"  1/8 wall tubing, chute is 16 ga.   Total height 39",  5" total lock casters 1-1/4" wide.Last edited by Housedad; 01-14-2014 at 03:02 PM.Victor Oxy weld/cut Setup Meco Midget Torch outfitEverlast 2016 250EX & Power Cool W300Lincoln Power mig 210MP  w/amptrol and Spool GunEverlast Powerarc 200 Hypertherm Powermax 45Bandsaw, Lathe, grinders, press, Bridgeport, etc.
