I have bought a powcon 300sm, I know it is set up for 230 for sure. When I power it on the screen is dim and reads "E". Turn it off and back on it reads one of the following- 0,1,2,4, or 5. Has anyone seen this or can help me with this?
Reply:Do you have a manual for it? Sounds like you may want to track one down.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:Have you tried using the machine? Does it work?  I have a TA185 and it puts out codes when you turn it on and off, just part of its self diagnostic stuff .

Reply:The meter display being dim raises some question about if it's wired correctly, to be sure I'd make sure it's set up for your input voltage. It can be set for 208VAC, 230VAC 1 phase or  230VAC, 380VAC, 460VAC, 575VAC, 3 phase. You said you're sure it's set up for 230, right? Make sure it's the correct phase for what you have. Then check your input voltage to be sure you need to be set on 230VAC. If your source is only 208VAC (+/- 10%) that could be why the display is dim.As far as what the display is reading, (E, EEE, -01, -02, -04, -05 when set to read amps or 00.1, 00.2, 00.3 when set to read volts) that is normal when not under load, (or open circuit). The display will only show amp or volt output while under load (actually welding). If it were me I'd hook it up and run some test welds before I did anything. You'll know if it's not functioning properly. (Unless this is your first time mig welding, in which case props to you for getting a such a good machine for your first one.)Here's a couple of scans from the owner's manual about input voltage changes.P.S. please don't get yourself killed or hurt checking all this out, you do know to unplug the machine and discharge the capacitors before you crack open the cover, don't you? Here's a copy of a sticker that should be on the inside of the cover on setting single phase voltage input. (Sorry for the sloppy handwriting, when I wrote this I didn't expect to share it with anyone.)Good luck, and let us know how you make out.Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]
