Reply:FYI, this is the Miller reference I had spoken about. I have to put a Cow Bell on it; I put it down and cant find it for weeks. I have it set for 1/8 in steel. As you can see, it gives the recommended current, voltage, wire speed, shelding gas and wire diameter. Ive found it to be very helpful, giving good results. 1/8 stock is 0.125 inches tick. At 1 amp per 0.001 inch that would be 125 amps as the suggested starting current. The calculator recommends 140-150 amps. Ive tested, welding a 1/8 T fillet using these settings, 140 amps gives sufficient penetration to cause the back side of the joint to slightly melt through, 150 amps may be to much. Now that Ive tweaked the power supply another notch I need to test with ¼ stock. The recommended current is 180-190 amps. Attached Images
