For some reason I got the desire to try an make a scroll bender setup to add scrolls to some of my projects. It didn't turn out the best, kept having problems with the flat steel buckling as I heated it and bent it around the round pipe. I was able to beat most of them out on my homemade anvil except for the very begining of it. If I can get a scroll pattern i'm happy with I plan on attatching it to a round piece of flat steel an making a fixture that I can mount on my table and just crank a handle to roll the scroll. 93 Bobcat 225GMillerMatic 135HF Tig 91811
Reply:I do them hot on the anvil. There are any number of Youtube videos on the subject and most basic blacksmithing books cover scroll making. Try "making scrolls" or "forging scrolls". There are a ton of others, but I've seen these guys work so I'll post them up.You might also pop over to Iforgeiron and do some browsing. There are bound to be tons of examples and suggestions there on how to do scrolls from the blacksmiths there.http://www.iforgeiron.com/.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Looking to make my own similar to what this fellow has, the second tool he demostrates. I plan to make it inner changeable so I can make bigger scrolls or smaller scrolls.93 Bobcat 225GMillerMatic 135HF Tig 91811
Reply:I've seen any number of simple ones like that where you clamp the jig in the vise and bend your piece, but you usually have to make the jig "old school" on an anvil using traditional methods..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Scrolls are a new thing to me as well. I have only made these few for this sign holder. I simply clamped the stock against a pipe in the vise and worked the stock around the pipe making it looser and looser as I went around. I as well would love to make up a nice heavy duty but small tool/machine for doing scrolls. I like the unit aametalmaster posted! My one only so far scroll work.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...er-scroll-work
Reply:That should be a great little set-up.Back in the day when I was working in a welding shop, the boss made a bender that would do different size scrolls as well as twist 1/2" sq stock for railings. I'd love to have that unit nowMiller 252Miller Bobcat 225Lincoln MigPak 1801959 Hyster forkliftHarris OA torch
Reply:The pipe idea seems the best so far. I've been eyeing some of Metal Crafts tools, think I might pick one up around tax time.93 Bobcat 225GMillerMatic 135HF Tig 91811
