So I was welding away at work, welding on some thin high carbon steel, (like 3/32nds), with the gassed flux core machine set at 22 volts and about 300 inches per minute. Everything looked great and the supervisor comes over and says that the machine needs to be set at 24 volts and 350 inches per minute minimum, which is what it's normally set at for all the 1/4" and 1/2" mild and heat treated steel.I turned the machine up and I started blowing holes in everything almost instantly. Was it ok to turn it down for some thin stuff? When I say gassed I mean it requires shielding gas. This is lincoln ultrashield (.045) wire, and c-25 gas. Thanks for the answer, I read a bunch on google and wasn't able to piece together something conclusive.
Reply:All wire has a range of settings it will work at.Assuming this is your wire, here is some info on settings. For 100% CO2, increase by 1 volt.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Thanks Dave, much appreciated. I thought the supervisor was just talking out his arse.
