I have an old Advance lathe I was wanting to know if anybody could figure it out. I will post pics tonight.
Reply:Hi, I actually have one of them in my garage, I was given one of these a little while ago, mine is a very small one, but it is really useless for any sort of steel lathe work. I am tempted to give it back to him when he comes back from holidays. It doesn't have the original 3 phase motor on it as someone has replaced the motor at some point in time. The cross feed has only one nut to tighten the carriage, the slides wobbles around a lot, all in all, probably only suitable as a boat anchor. It may have been better when it was new but by looking at the way it was designed and built... I seriously doubt it.Miller Auto Invision 456 + S-62 wire feederC6240B1 Gap bed lathe16 ft3 air compressor16 speed pedestal drillHafco BS-912 Bandsaw
Reply:I'd like to see some pictures, a lot of lathes (any good ones) usually have adjustable gibs on the ways so you can tighten them down to remove slop and play. Is it possible it just needs some TLC to get tight again?

Reply:just a few more pics. All in all it is too worn out I think to spend a lot of time trying to ressurect it. I have adjusted it where I could but I would probably be better off spending about $800 and buying a much better lathe which will be larger and not as wobbly, but as I said it was given to me for free and sight unseen, it's just not much good for the things that I want to turn on it. Reply:Hell..put that thing to use. A little time with some solvent, bead blaster and paint whll have it looking great. You can buy a quick change tool post and some powertwist belts to put that thing into operation. Looks VERY similar to an Atlas lathe I was given lately.I've also debated using the bed and building a metal shaper using some of the parts.
