I am at a final design need for drill pipe selection.  N80 is common but harder to get in my area and much more expensive.   I have found the following to chose from:schedule 80 black pipe with .214 wallDOM with .188 wall CD butt welded with .219 wallOf course having a need for an 8 ft section the black pipe has cut off waist that would be used on other aspects of the unit I am making.   The other types are had in 24 ft so there would be no left over to speak of.   I am planning on stating a maximum drilling depth of 300 ft on the rig.  It has the muster to do more but I do not want people thinking it is an every day 400 ft rig.  Input?  Thanks
Reply:What's cheapest? I'm guessing your using 2"  if your using the MJ couplings  I would think any of them would be fine you have 5000 lbs of pull back you will not pull any of those in half. There is a magazine  called national driller that's online with a classified section that sometimes has used May hew junior drill rod for sale. pipe threads probably would last that long though with the hydrualic torque you have you need as much weight as possible weight is your friend in drilling as long as you can pull in back outDo not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Reply:Check on getting pins and boxes and welding to your own pipe versus having used drill stem shipped or picked up. You need a pull down on your machine if you don't have it. If your gonna be able to go 300' your gonna pass a lot of different strata unless you've drilled that same country for a while. If you already knew this then I'm just rambling to use up all my words I had left over from today.hehe good luck.Arcon Workhorse 300MSPowcon 400SMTPowcon SM400 x 2Powcon SM3001968 SA200 Redface1978 SA250 DieselMiller Super 32P FeederPre 1927 American 14" High Duty LatheK&T Milwaukee 2H Horizontal MillBryan

Reply:Gray,Have you considered buying used structural drill pipe? Potentially it could save you a lot of time and even be more economic. If interested in pricing or availability of our stock, please feel free to contact me anytime.Visit our website @ www.jltubulars.comCorey [email protected]
Reply:This is a very good option. Some of the guys may know how many times the pipe has been used. This is what I will do. Worst case is a broken joint and you go fishing. If your doing this as a job buy new. Originally Posted by Corey-JLTubularsGray,Have you considered buying used structural drill pipe? Reply:Yes I have but shipping to my area is such a draw back.   I will check it out with you just in case the last place I checked was not realistic?   Thank you for your response.Gray
Reply:Gray,Where will the material be going? I can possibly get you an estimated freight quote. In regards to buying New pipe instead of Used Structural, it is much more cost effective to buy Used drill pipe inspected to DS-1 Cat 5. This way you have reports showing the integrity of the pipe and it's in better condition than structural but doesn't cost near as much as New drill pipe.Let me know if you would like a quote and/or more information on DS-1 Cat 5 inspected drill pipe.I'd be happy to help you!Corey [email protected]
