So, I have been welding for awhile but I don't really know all the information of why to use this electrode when welding something, why certain materials have to be welded a different way than normal, why to use a certain shield gas, etc. Is there any place I can learn more about the science and information of welding?Millermatic 200Miller Spectrum 2050
Reply:Nope. The information is unobtainable. Sorry.Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024

Reply:You mean besides here? Lincoln's Procedure Handbook of Arc Welding is a good reference with tons of information. They also have a number of good book on various aspects of welding.https://www.jflfoundation.com/Search....asp?Search=phhttp://www.jflfoundation.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=24Esab Also has a ton of info on line to look at.http://www.esabna.com/euweb/awtc/lesson1_1.htmLincoln also has a number of pamphlets that you can download with some great info. Ican't locate the download page I have on my other computer, but if you use the title and number shown on the sale page and add pdf to your search, they should come up. 2nd link shows an example.https://marcomcentral.app.pti.com/pr...o6te+39sGJQPm/http://www.lincolnelectric.com/asset...H-70/c2410.pdfMany of the other rod manufacturers have similar PDFs you can down load on various products. I know Stoody has a few on hard facing that I've saved to my regular computer..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Usually the manufactures of machines and consumables have documents and articles on their product capabilities, reasons how they work, descriptions of the welding process, telling you everything that product can do. But regardless to learn more you have to actually pick up a book and read it. He gave great examples up above. The other way to learn more.... get out there and do it in the field, on the jobsite, hands on experience is the best way to go. Book work comes after, the books will hone in your knowledge on particular subject matter. Wherever your interests might lie, there is a way to learn more about it. Research. I have spent hours and hours, days and weeks studying and learning in books for my CWI. Best thing that got me to that point....Experience, hands on learning with old welders.

Reply:Welding is best learned hands on, experience is always the best teacher, also you need good equipment to help also.
Reply:Setting things up has a lot to do with it, and being able to weld once you have a jig in place or clamped down may present a problem. You have to get really creative sometimes to pull off a job from my own experience my dad was a machinist and air craft mech, my uncle was real smart with things mechanical so they taught me good at about 12years old, I will be 67 this year so it takes time to be able to do things well and your always learning in welding and the art of welding is upgraded almost on a constant basis just like computers are. We used to build stock cars in the 1960s and I was always around this type of people so I gained a lot from them as well.
Reply:You have much money tied up in welders. The internet has ruined the book business.I used to sell books.I bought all Lincoln Electric books I could find for resale.
