Any thoughts on which way to lean?I'm new and have been using my Lincoln AC225 and want to venture into the mig world that will allow me to weld thinner material.  I'll be making off-road parts for my Toyota (bumpers) and furniture for around the house.  Almost went with the Lincoln 210 MP but don't like the way some of the drives have been sounding:  Doubt I'll ever use tig, and if I did, I'd buy a better unit.  The only real thing it offers for me is mig plus dc stick capability.So... Miller 190 inverter that is also new but seems quite capable or the tried and true 211?  No real budget here.  I don't mind spending money on quality.  I've searched this to death and am looking for recent opinions.  Thanks!
Reply:Although you are in Canada, and this won't work there.. I would wait for a Zoro tools coupon (30% off) Pay 725.55 after rebate, with free shipping. Also receive the $100.00 rebate from Miller, for a total cost of $625.55 At that price it's great deal. (IMO) It looks like it will run a 15 ft gun, and certainly will run a 12 ft fine.. It would be a nice mig only machine..Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i
Reply:This seems to be a very popular and hot topic at the present time. In regard to a Multiprocess machine, there are many great machines in which have unearthed such as the Tweco Fabricator series, Esab Caddy, Miller multimatic, Lincoln 210 MP, and the Memco/Miller XMT-304/300. These machines are mainly for the homeowner and light welders for portable use and space consumption. If you are not concerned about the money, then think about the Miller XMT-304 and wire feed unit. However if you are concerned about space in your shop plus weight think about the Lincoln MP 210. Millers, in my humble opinion are an extremely structured top of the line product and have strict manufacturing procedures. Adding to the point, Lincolns follow in the path of Millers. Lincoln Electric products are affordable and have a fair warranty system and the consumables along with Miller can be found almost anywhere. Just a side note, Lincoln reps did not know that the 210 MP would take off, and they will take a while to arrive if you should be ordering.Overall, go with your gut, spend the money on quality and it will repay you every time you strike an arc. When you feel you have time and motivation try the DC tig and hone your skills. Good luck! Keep us Posted.VictorPraxairAir LiquideMillerLincoln Electric

Reply:The XMT 304 certainly isn't  "mainly for the homeowner and light welders ". It's a full heavy duty industrial machine designed to run high amps day in day out in a production capability. Because they are so popular, used units show up fairly regularly on the market and make a reasonable option for the welder who is looking for a solid heavy duty machine at a reasonable price..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:that is what i mean, since the xmt are fairly common, they are a good welder, because this would be the only welder you would need in your shop.I'm sorry what information is incorrect?Lincolns follow in the path of Miller that's funny good one.

Reply:The Tweco 211i or 252i may also be of interest. The 211i is dual-voltage but significantly larger and heavier than the Lincoln. The 252i is more expensive and 208/240V only but has a lot more power while being only slightly larger and heavier than the 211i.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
