Looking to buy a shop press and a brake to bend up some metal for in the shop. Is northen hyd the only place to buy a low priced press and break? I was looking for the type of dye that is square and has the differnt notches in it for different angles. Like everyone else not looking to spend a ton of cash but I really don't like the presses with a bottle jack on them or are they ok? Any links to web sites would be great. Looking for a 20 to 30 ton should cover anything I would do. Thanks]Lincoln PT 225 Tig

Reply:i have a auto repair shop and we bought a 20 ton press from harbor freight and so far it has been great and has performed better than expected. for 250.00 i really have no complaints.
Reply:Look online in your local Craig's List classified ads. There is alot of nice large shop equipment going for very cheap these days with so many shops closing their doors.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Bought a 30 tonne shop press, mainly for bending up small brackets. The jack is only a standard upright bottle type. If this quality Chinese unit dies, simply buy another to replace it.In hindsight probably should have gone the 50 tonne, cause I use it more than I anticipated and am finding 560 mm is a bit narrow for what I am currently bending.I went to a couple of machinery places looking for some not too battered second hand tooling before spying this unloved 60 deg, 4 sided block sitting in a shipping container. I'm told $100 AUD for a new 500mm long die was good value. Its probably just an offcut from a machine this joint sold. 85 deg of course is better for right angled bends, but the price would have been a lot more.Of course I could have made up a simple bottom die myself, but this baby is hardened and made for production use, so it will last me a long time. The top was a piece of cake on the mill. Attached Images
Reply:That is what I'm looking for. I can across some steel and was thinking of making my own press now. I will use the bottle jack option as they are easy to find and cheaper that a porta power type which would be a better set up.]Lincoln PT 225 Tig |
