Onan generator cart from recycled gym equipment

A little sideline of mine: taking Onan RV generators and reconditioning then reconfiguring them for stand alone use. Lot of scrapped RV`s around here, can usually get them relatively cheap, usually very low hrs. I do 1 every other month or so, depending on availability and free time. Sometimes I even make them in tri-fuel (gasoline - propane - natural gas). I love these old school beasts, superior to most anything made today. Minimal to no electronics to fry, will run almost forever, and built like a tank! I usually have a waiting list of buyers.Not finished yet, but functional. This one is my personal toy, usually I don`t spend this much effort/time on one, but only paid $50 for it w/ ~90hrs on the clock - already pulled. It is a `75 Onan 6.5 NH-3CR 120/240v, needed carb cleaned and fuel pump to run like a Swiss watch. Have about $200 into it as it sits. Cart is made from a piece of old gym equipment, 2" square tube. Radius 90*`s were already made. Need to change/move castors, finish exhaust/bottom tray, add tri-fuel and paint. I`ve got ~ 20 hrs into it right now, maybe 10 more to finish. More pix next post. Reply:Awesome!  I love recycled material projects.I concur on your take on these units.  Have rebuilt/repaired a fair number myself and have one in a service van that I converted from gasoline to propane.  No multi-fuel on that one.My Bobcat 225G Plus was originally factory equipped for LP and I've since added NG capability to it with a connection off my home service line for long duration operation.Nice job. Reply:Originally Posted by duaneb55I know exactly what you mean.  A buddy of mine grabs all the LP/NG 12-15K Onan JC units he can get his hands on.  Has a good source in a local generator dealer that replaces a number of them with newer units that won't last half as long.  People just think because they're older means they're not reliable.  Mosty of them fire right up and produce power without doing a thing except hand the guy $3-500 each for them.And don't get me started on bedframe projects or I'll be here all night diggin' up old threads.
Reply:I thought I one of the few that picked up bed railings, old frames and junk from the side of the road when offered for free.   Im like you guys the old stuff just keeps running. Great job on the generator refurbishing
