I have been using some 3/32 electrodes to weld some 3/16 metal. My question is would 1/8 be too much to weld this or should I stick to 3/32 electrodes?Century AC 100 stick (dead but trying to fix it)Everlast PA 160 STHhttp://www.riograndehatters.comhttp://www.texashatcleaners.com
Reply:You can use 1-8 inch on 3-16 ,but it may be easier to run the 3-32 rod. More important than metal thickness is the type of joint or weld required. What works good on aflat fillet wont always work as well on say an overhead butt joint .Miller xmt304,  Miller S22 p12, Miier Maxstar SD, Miller 252 w 30A, Miller super32p12, Lincoln Ranger 9, Thermal Arc 181I with spoolgun, Hypertherm 10000 ,Smith torches. Reply:I can do it with 1/8" rods, but most of the students at the tech school probably can't. 3/32" is a bit easier for most guys with less experience..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:3/32 will give you good penetration with out burning threw on 3/16 on a single pass, now if you do choose 1/8 your travel speed needs to be a little quick to avoid burn though and undercut as well as warping.
