Just thought about a sculpture I saw over 40 years ago at St. Thomas Aquinas church in Charlottesville, VA. when I attended UVa. It's made out of car bumpers. We kids called it the "bumper god" although it's supposed to be St. Thomas Aquinas. Pretty darned big and it's still there from a Google Maps street view pic. Reply:Cool! Lots of work and effort to build that out of bumpers. Can't imagine how solid it is. Thanks for sharing.
Reply:Found this out there at random, don't know if it's true:The car bumper statue: That big silver statue outside St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Alderman Road is actually made out of old car bumpers. Sculptor/priest Father Henry Mascotte created a statue of a meditating Aquinas in the mid-1960s by piecing together auto salvage from around South Bend, Indiana."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
