Hi all! As you maybe read in my previous post I am studying industrial design and we were asked to design welding equipment. My last question on this forum was perhaps a bit naïve when I asked “What is the best welding brand?” and I understand that it was difficult to answer such a general question. Here’s a second attempt (hopefully more specific) to learn more about what is important for you welders when choosing equipment. * In your opinion, what is the difference between Kemppi, ESAB, Fronius, Miller and Lincoln?* What brand would you choose and why/when? * Are different welding brands good at different things? (For instance “Miller makes great TIG-welders but terrible MIG-welders”)* What are you looking for when buying a new welder? * How important is the brand when choosing welding equipment? What other factors are important?I know that the questions still are rather general but I am most grateful if you would take some time to give me your opinion on one or more of my questions. All answers are helpful in my research.  All the best,Eliah
Reply:One welder's opiinon. It has been my experience that Lincoln makes the most robust equipment. Miller and ESAB tend to be a bit quicker to develope innovations. Fronius has made a big impact with their Gas Metal Arc welding equipment. Kempiiis similiar to Miller and ESAB but lack the technical back up in the US. My equipment selection would first be based on what is expected to be the primary function, then cost, and technical support.
Reply:Here's part two, for those who missed it the first time around.Part one for your refferance http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...-welding-brandLast edited by Bistineau; 04-21-2015 at 10:50 AM.
Reply:Lol, this sounds like a college research paper and he is gathering survey information. In my Personal experiences I have had great luck with Red-D-Arc(Bare bones Lincoln from what I understand) and Lincoln diesel engine drive machines with SMAW, I have also had very good luck with Miller 3 phase machines on SMAWI have also had miller engine drives that worked great with SMAW and then others I couldn't keep a consistent arc for nothing. Maintenance is the key to engine drives. Most of the wire feeders (GMAW/FCAW) I have used in the past are Miller. And they have worked excellent for me. Not too fond of the ESAB machines as of right now. Ive been having issues with them. I haven't had the chance to get into GTAW and their machines a ton. But from the times I have welded with them I liked the Miller machine. Cant remember what model it was but boy it ran smooth. I am looking for a welder that is indestructible and lasts forever maintenance free. (Hey you asked the questions right)? lolBrand is definitely important regarding accessibility for parts for repairs and maintenance.LOL now I see it was dated 2010. He should be out of school by now   Last edited by AndrewDavenport89; 04-21-2015 at 11:46 AM.
