I have been wanting to get a scroll bender for quite some time and was hoping you guys could help me make a good decision.Who out there has one that they would recommend getting?  I would be using for hobby stuff.  Making pieces of furniture.  A table to set next to the BBQ a little cabinet for under the TV to hold the cable box and assorted odds and ends of things. Are there some of these that would work with a base and maybe be interchangeable with a ring roller?I have read that the HF attachment to the pipe bender is pretty crappy so dont want to go that route.  And the scroll bender attachments for a hossfeld bender are WAY out of my price range even though they do an amazing job from the videos I have seen. Thanks!
Reply:With a little work, you can make the HF scroller work for you.  There are a couple posts on here that will tell you what to do.  Look in the HF thread.I have one but I havent "adjusted" mine yet.ECAVE Still learnin'Lincoln AC225Lincoln 135SPHF ChopsawVictor O/ANumerous other items
Reply:i have a hf scroller..its not a hossfeld but for what you wanna do it is ok.. you probably  can do what you are talking about with no scroller, just some forks, leverage  and ingenuity.
Reply:I have a HF also.  I'm a hobbyist and it works for me!(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah:  Go Big Red!   (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)

Reply:The problem with that kind Bob is that it is the only size you get. Imagine, buying a scroll from King, cutting it in half, welding the two pieces to a piece of channel. After welding a piece of steel in to hold the steel as you start your bend, you have the two parts you show with your bender. You just bend it around the small end of the scroll first and then just move it to the large end to finish the scroll. That's the way I've done it for years and I have a lot of different sizes that I've made through the years. With all the sizes I've made through the years I had to build another one just the other day.
Reply:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...=scroll+benderWorked  well,  only used it for 2 jobs.   Easy enough to make a several different sizes.  I made it for a job because I wanted to make scrolls from 1/4" stock and make the end round rather than flat.  Also, wanted to do it cold.  I think  still ended up  prebending  the end prior to scrolling.
Reply:Thanks for all the info so far guys! Looks like I have some thinking to do on this one.

Reply:But if you are making a product like a lamp, or book ends, or a bunch of something, where you do not have much to grip, or the pieces are very short. You could benefit from a powered machine.        Sincerely,             William McCormick
