Anyone have a source for purchasing 4.5" cutting wheels for angle grinders in bulk? I always feel like Im running out of these at the worst time. I have been buying them at the local Home depot and Lowes but Id like to just get a huge box at once and be done with it.Thanks!
Reply:Has anyone tried this brand: http://www.heleta.com/abrasive-produ...-p6463573.html$.66 each seems really cheap.
Reply:Never tried them- order some up and see how they work and let us know! I think that's even cheaper than Harbor Freight. the HF ones suck pretty bad, but they work good enough since I don't use them that much now that I have my porta band.Millermatic 135Syncrowave 250
Reply:I have been trying out pretty much all the different cut off wheels I can get my hands on lately. The thing I have noticed is that the 'el cheapo' ones are el cheapo for a reason... they dont last for long at all.I have used the home depot brand (Norton) and they work, but they get chewed up so fast its ridiculous. I had to cut a 4' long by 1.5' hole in some thin (probably 16ga or 18ga) sheet metal to install a light in a new spray booth. One 4' cut used up an entire wheel. For comparison, I picked up some Bosch cut off wheels, and had to cut 3' of 3/16" steel and when I was done with the cut only about 1/4" of the bosch wheel had been eaten up.I have also used the DeWalt and Hilti ones and they seem to last about 3 times as long and are less than twice the price of the cheapo ones.I know you can buy a "case" of cut off wheels from Fastenal, but I have not used the ones that come in bulk so I cant say whether or not they work well. They have 25 packs from Norton Abrasives (which may be the same at the Norton ones at HD but in my experience home depot buys the bottom of the line in whatever they sell) for $90-100 and a 50 pack from United Abrasives for $155.http://www.fastenal.com/web/search/p...iZjuevtg&Nty=0 Also if you have a store near you and get an account for your company or just a personal one they will usually give you 10-15% off the price.Last edited by ggarner; 07-19-2010 at 01:51 PM.

Reply:I can't help you with buying them in bulk, but I switched to a grinder that can use a 6" cutting wheel. The places I buy them at have the 6" for the same price as the 4.5" but a 6" will last a whole lot longer.Miller 250x & Lincoln V205-TSmith Oxy-Prop torch
Reply:Go to a Fastenal store and buy a box of Metabo cut off wheels. Pricy but worth it. They last forever, cut well, and I've never had one shatter or break even when I've bound them up tight.http://www.fastenal.com/web/products...0211842&ucst=t

Reply:CGW products are top of the line. I personally have been through well over a hundred of their 5" .040 wheels and never had one break or shatter even when they catch and bind the grinder up.Have we all gone mad?
