After seeing this here I new I had to give it a shot, so today HTP order was delivered. Thinking this weekend the welder is about to change some. I am amazed at the weight and flexibility of this rig.I must admit the first time I tried the gas lens I was unimpressed, user error.  Putting this torch together I discovered what I did wrong and can see the gas lens will have a different out come this go around.Just playing added the pyrex cup to the order for grins to see if there will be any advantage there, also bought the flex head.Act two take one !I do have a question, the torch is #7 so 7 size cup is installed, what advantages do the other cups offer? In other words is the  shielding envelope of #8 greater than #5 ? Is the stick out different, that kind of thing ?Magazines have issues, everything else has problems
Reply:Larger cups will let you shield more area around the weld. Also the gas lens will shield better, allowing lower flow rates if you want or you can crank the CFH up higher and use a longer stickout. I've had stickout of around 1-1.25" with a #7 cup before, lets you really get down into things. Just don't expect to save money on argon doing that. That torch looks to be a #17, good for 150 amps. I usually like a #6 cup or if using a gas lens #7 on #17 torches.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:Please report back on your experience with the Pyrex cup. I personally wanted one, but after practicing a bit, I don't see any advantage.  Seems like it will allow one to see an area that one shouldn't be looking at anyway.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum

Reply:I have the WP-20 water cooled torch and both gas lens and traditional.  I trade back and forth.. the gas lens gives you more ability to "stick-out" but the thinner traditional cub gives better visability in certain conditions where the torch blocks your view.  Bottom line, as long as the weld is protected you should use the one that lets you see the best and get the best feel.

Reply:I see you also got the stubby 17/26 collet body kit, nice. I like how they use CK torches. Why two torches though?  I see a second torch body with no handle there... 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig!
