I need to join a stainless utensil container to a piece of thicker stainless sheet.  I'm hoping someone has a few pointers since I don't have much TIG experience.  Here's a link to the utensil container:http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30131716/The thickness of the metal is around 15 thousandths and it rolls over to form a smooth edge at the top.  I'm trying to attach a piece that's maybe 5 times the thickness to the perimeter of the top which should be interesting.I have an Everlast PowerPro 256 which has pulse, but I've never used that function.  I also have silver solder if I can get the fit up tight enough.  I'd love to hear some opinions from different people, so fire away! Thanks,Everett
Reply:So, I'm trying to picture what you're describing.  Does the holder drop into a hole in the heavier stainless?  Then you want to weld around the perimeter?
Reply:I would silver solder it to avoid ruining 3 out of every 4 that I tigged.  Too much differential in thickness to join at my skill level.Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig  Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma
Reply:I'm basically making a pipe flange on a small (thin) scale so I can screw this thing to a flat surface.  I was thinking the hole in the thicker plate would be slightly bigger than the ID of the strainer, but wouldn't exceed the OD. Silver solder is looking better every day Last edited by serious_lee; 12-20-2013 at 08:20 PM.Reason: Added details

Reply:I would go with brazing too.  Depending on the temperature, you could probably even get away with soldering.KevKevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio
Reply:Here's how the silver brazing turned out in case anyone was curious.   Harris Stay Brite No. 8 and Stay Silv liquid flux heated with propane.
