Reply:I've seen Miller 330 AB/P's in that range and the rebadged ones Miller made for Airco go for even less. Nothing fancy, but a nice AC?Dc tig. They are however big, heavy and want a fair amount of electrical power. Up side is that you won't lack for output if you can feed the beast..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:DSW is right, my Airco 300 is a rebadged miller 330 a/bp and was $250. See them under $600 often. Was tig welding today actually - big millers are awesome and cheap. I think everyone wants the cool new stuff so they are selling the big old ones. Also, your stick welder will tig just fine - that's how I started with it, found out I liked it and upgraded. At the price I got it for, it paid itself off plus the practice time, gas, material quickly.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:I bought an Eastwood 200 AC/DC TIG last week. I used it to repair this 7/16" drill bit which snapped while drilling out some washers. I never tigged before last week. I live about 45 minutes from the Eastwood store and drove there for the first time. I bought a welder at the store that was an open box buy for less than an unopened box, with a full 3 year warranty. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I figure I have 3 good years of TIG before the warranty runs out. The handheld face shield was missing and the regulator knob was missing. I bought a 8mm X 1.25mm bolt and tigged a nail across the head for a custom regulator adjustment screw.I learned a few things when welding the drill bit. Tacking one side then grinding the opposite side and welding gave a bent drill bit. Then, grinding the tacked side and welding straightened the bit. Welding seemed to expand the metal. I then drilled a few 2X4s with minimal runout and no drill breakage. I decided to leave the excess weld since I don't think I will drill that deep and it should add strength.Century 230/140 AC/DCCraftsman ColormaticLincoln pro Mig 180Eastwood 200 AC/DC TIG
Reply:Originally Posted by bj139...I learned a few things when welding the drill bit...What could happen? I was surprised when it first snapped on the drill press, but it just fell. I don't think there would be any safety issues unless I am operating the drill press unsafely.

Reply:I was very surprised at the small amount of runout when I ran it in the drill press. I have seen more runout on brand new drill bits. If welds are stronger than the base metal it will probably break next to the weld.

Reply:Interesting fix that's for sure. I definitely wouldn't drill any metal with that bit, and everything else using good eye protection. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig!
