Hey everyone... How would one go about painting a Welding Helmet, i'm not talking a fancy 150-300 auto darkening helmet, just a CIG black basic fixed shade. I tried 12 coats of spray paint, it worked but is there anything better, putting a coat of laquer over it?? What do you all suggest and what have you done in the past?Greatly appreciated!VictorPraxairAir LiquideMillerLincoln Electric
Reply:Like this? That hood is like 7 or 8 years old. When it got really messed up looking this guy who does tattoos I was on a job with slapped that on with some paint markers and a spray paint background. Flat colored background. Regular spray cans we found off of a jack up barge we were working off of. It still looks just like it does in the picture. It has some burn to it now, but I retired that hood a couple years ago. Not long after that pipeline. Got me a new white one. I don't think I will be painting any more hoods though. I got in a little heat one time because of it. Some places wont allow any hood to have paint or stickers on them due to a smoke inhalation hazard and "fire" hazard since it is a flammable substance you put on the hood lol. You cant really see it clearly but its a picture of a naked chick.
Reply:ya that is a good point sir!! I don't work for a company, so i should be fineMaybe i will try spay then laquer unless someone has something better.  thanks for the reply!!VictorPraxairAir LiquideMillerLincoln Electric

Reply:Do a google search on hydrodipping. Awesome stuff. And you can find kits all over the Internet and eBay to do your hood. Or if you want something temporary that you can change search plastidiping.Lincoln Pro Mig 180Lincoln Pro Core 125Hypertherm 30xpPorter Cable Drill PressAcra 7x12 bandsaw48" sheet metal brakeCrap load of other tools, working on metal now.
Reply:My customized 'Liner hood is staring to resemble CEP's.  Naturally painted with fire, smoke, and grace.  "Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Reply:I get a kick out of the guys that buy an expensive welding helmet and then polish it up to put in a bag overnight. It's a welding helmet! If it actually gets used in the real world it will look like CEP's pipeliner in short order.
Reply:How about we just get some welding done?! I find it hard to take a welder seriously wearing a designer helmet. It does not even matter if he has mad skills.Sent from my SCH-I545 using TapatalkCRIME SCENES, COURT DATES, FUNERALS, RIDING THROUGH THE CITY WITH A BITCH THAT IS JUST BEAUTIFUL IT'S JUST BUSINESS AS USUAL.

Reply:I will take pictures on any job as long as I can get away with it. I like to document the jobs and what I do. If i am specifically told not to which i have several times in the past i respect their wishes and do not take any photos. BUT if i am on a lax job site....you best bet I am fixing to take pictures of all the cool stuff we do.
Reply:i am not trying to be a pretty boy! if thats what you mean!? hahahaI am just trying to safe 100 bucks from buying a fibre metal helmet from amazon. I appreciate the posts that gave some pointers thanks!VictorPraxairAir LiquideMillerLincoln Electric

Reply:Poor mans Pipeliner? OMG are you serious? Do you carry a wrench in your pocket to adjust the tension too? Hope you wear a welding cap cause it would suck to get your hair caught in those hose clamps. I'm seen some redneck engineering before but this takes the cake! You have a repair facility? It's not very good advertising for the quality of your services when it looks like you must be barely getting by. Even worse is if customers think you do repairs the same way. Just food for thought.
Reply:Really?? it's a joke. Plus i don't run the place, why does everyone get so butt hurt over everyones stuff?? There is no way i am willing to spend over 100 hundred dollars on one, even if fibremetal. I am the type of person, and i am sure there are many on this forum, that like to try things. My brain is wired in the way that i make something before i buy it, if it breaks i fix it.When you were a kid did you ever learn if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything...Last edited by IslandWeldingKid; 04-30-2015 at 10:34 AM.VictorPraxairAir LiquideMillerLincoln Electric

Reply:not everything is is U.S dollars, there is such a thing as CAD dollars. so it does cost around $100 CAD dollars here! parts i already had.Stop being a trollVictorPraxairAir LiquideMillerLincoln Electric
Reply:So if someone doesn't pat you on the back they're a troll? A Pipeliner should be about $75 cad. if you make a couple calls. Do you even have a way to adjust how far the helmet falls for different welding positions? When you post stuff, other people post stuff too. That's how the internet works. You might not agree with everything that other people post, though. 2 Hobart MIG welders, 1 on the gas 1 flux coreHTP Invertig 221 DV Eastwood TIG200HTP MIG 2400

Reply:Lots of people paint helmets. Not too many use hose clamps on the headgear.
