I am going to be doing a little bit of fabrication work, building some metal pillars, walls etc, all light weight and for looks, not to support anything. I am looking for a metal brake 36"- 48" but have no clue what to look for. I see prices ranging from $100 - $1000.00 realizing that thats going from junk to way overkill. Any suggestions on what to get for just occasional use.
Reply:Unfortunately, a brake that won't bend .065 sheet cleanly 1000 times....likely won't bend it 3 times without stressing the bender and throwing it out of whack. A brake that is stressed can't even bend 24ga. metal cleanly. Once they are sprung, you have to work to get them back to good. Pexto makes some good ones. Search up sheet metal tools online, you'll find a lot of units out there. Believe me; if you do HVAC metal work that is mild steel sheet up to 22 ga, and then you try to slip in an 18ga sheet of SS on a lightweight brake thinking one time won't hurt it.... you are mistaken. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return. |
