Here's some shelf brackets I made recently.  They will be suspending two large (2' x 15') 2 inch thick hemlock planks in a living room.  I didn't have the right size threading die so I had to single point the threads, but I needed the practice, so the time spent was justified.  I bent the tube on a Shop Outfitters ring roller.  It took over three hours to bend and my left hand was swollen for two days after, but it worked. Reply:They really are monster shelf brackets. Why did they want the brackets on the top instead of supporting the bottom? What size was the thread and is that what is holding the plank?TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:Nice ! I love over kill builds !     Like someone said, why buy it for $20 when you can build it for a $100. I'll take build it every time . It won't break either !
Reply:The design requirements were to preserve the open space below the shelf, so the shelf had to be hung from above.  There will be some plates that will support the plank, making a plate-plank-bracket sandwich.  The threads are 1/2" UNC, two per bracket.  If you look real close at the CAD sketch on the right side you can see the support plate.
Reply:I see it now. Guess they did'nt want normal bolts running through. Did you just plug weld the stud inside the tubing?TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:Given the spacing I wanted on the studs and the tube, there was going to be interference between the bolt heads and the tube, so bolts were out of the question.  I plug welded them to the flat bar (look close at the pic of all four brackets and you can see what I mean).  The shelf is going to be above eye level, so I didn't worry about sanding them smooth and invisible.  Also with studs the installer won't have to get a wrench on both sides of the shelf.

Reply:Those are big and strong brackets. Like the modern and cool design, well made and uniform in shape and size. Great job!
Reply:They were modeled in TurboCad Pro.
