Looking for a good bender for bending automobile exhaust, bumper bars, and pieces for single and double axle trailors.I have been searching but they have different thicknesses so i am not sure which to get?
Reply:For exhaust you want a very different bender than for bumpers and trailer parts. The exhaust benders are very expensive; a tube bender for thicker wall stuff is pretty affordable. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:I have an exhaust bender and it handles thicker stuff great.  I've bent a lot of 1 3/4" x 14 ga tube and a few pieces of 2" sched 40?. It was fairly thick, I'd say 3/16" maybe.  I wouldn't hesitate to do 1/8" wall tube in any size I have dies for.  It's a MasterBend.  Here's a fuzzy pic.  Attached ImagesMy name's not Jim....
Reply:I should clarify, after seeing Jim's post: The thinner material is what needs special consideration, the thick stuff is easy to bend! And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Ok,thanks for the info i will pm you some more questions. Now,for bumper bars and trailer what would be a good bender to get,i did a search and their is the jd squared model 4,and jmr.Are their other that i should be looking at?
Reply:The protools isnt a bad bender, just get the 105HD version if you get it, and there is the gottrikes that is world famous if you decide to build your own.If you cannot convince them, confuse them.         Harry S Truman
Reply:I am building a Bender from gottrikes and I'm almost doneit is going to be awesome!
Reply:If I can help with JMR Tube Benders let me know.  The JMR Manual Bender is on sale."I Build Stuff"www.jmrmfg.comwww.509media.com
Reply:Hey Dan, I will be in the market for a tube/pipe bender in the near future. What's the sale price on the JMR Manual, and what (if any) die(s) come with it?Last, what is the thinnest wall tube/pipe that you can properly bend ?Thanks in advance,-az-

Reply:as has been said exhaust tubing and other tubing for bumpers etc take different machines...I have a Ben Pearson mc59 exhaust bender which crushes the bends, and am about to build the gottrikes aka takacs cycles bender for schoolSyncWave 250DXMiller MIG Welder (small offshoot make)
Reply:whats the tightest radius that can be bent on the gottrikes A/H in like 2" .120
Reply:6" CLR is the tightest on .120" wall.7" CLR you can go with .095" wallIf you cannot convince them, confuse them.         Harry S Truman
Reply:im getting the jd2 bender for stinger bars and rock sliders ect. (the model 3)it will handle thicker stuff. for the exhaust i thought you kink it more than bend it.but if you go to advanced auto parts or o-rileys or one of those, they sell pre- bent exhaust sections.and you clamp them on.
Reply:Fabman, I have a JD model 3 and it does 99% of what you were asking about very well.  Exhaust is another issue entirely, thin walls make for wrinkles so I just do spec tube for the other stuff and get a local midas to do my exh tube bends when I need em.  I cultivated this relationship so they dont question the cat or EPA issues, just bend it and give me a bill for "misc" labor charge.  The Jd2 model 3 is tough, and can be converted to hydro very easily if you need some extra oomph on the bigger thicker walled stuff.  Never needed it so far, but it is available if the need arises.  The JMR, and 105's are also very good entries in the light manual bender field and you will be satisfied with any of the three, IMHO.  Good luck, have fun, and get a copy of Bend Tech Pro and life is really good.BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
Reply:Yea I was looking at the "all that is man" model 32... Un need for anything I would do. I was looking at the ease of making it hydraulic. Seems kinda easy.
Reply:I would recommend JMR hands down.  Call the guys there, they have amazing customer service, their product is absolutely perfection...and they'll be able to guide you on everything you'll need in order to bend thin and thick wall tubing.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
