I recently discovered that I am to scrap a couple of old presses from our fab shop and I'll need to cut them into smaller pieces to do it. They weigh about 50,000 Lbs each and the sections I'll be cutting are through 4.5" thick steel plate. My question is how to figure out how much O2 and acetylene I'll go through using a size 6 victor tip. Is there a flow rate chart that corresponds to a specific pressure out there any where? I'm just trying to get all the costs submitted before the project starts. Thanks!
Reply:Victor has a book on this, that includes some nice charts:http://www.thermadyne.com/IM_Uploads...20guide_lo.pdfFor a 1-101-6 or 3-101-6 tip, they say:45-55PSI cutting oxygen, and 500-600 scfh consumption, not counting pre-heat use.
Reply:Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for!

Reply:The biggest one is a Verson 100 ton press made of steel, the other is a Toledo and its mostly cast iron. The Toledo looks like it can be unbolted in large sections so I'm hoping there's not much cutting to do on it. I

Reply:Hey Jarred,You may want to consider an oxygen lance instead if you want some cost effectiveness. My riding buddy works at a SS foundry & they use them to cut thru 12" of steel like butter. They use a 6mm lance with 60psi of O2.DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:You better hope you can get by without cutting the Toledo, as an Oxy-Acet torch isn't going to make it to far on cast iron.
Reply:Your going to want a lance, NOT a torch. A torch will work but these are where a lance shines.Have we all gone mad? |
