This is my first fabrication project. I found some used hospital style filing cabinets (front flips up and retracts) for $3 a piece. I thought I'd make a frame to hang them and give it to my Dad to hold some of his power tools that are collecting dust. The cabinets just hang on the frame which now has caster and roller wheels on it. The cabinets have had their fronts painted in silver flake. I've also taped and cut out flames. Now I just need to paint them blue and pull the tape to reveal silver flames.

Reply:I can see where those will be very helpful. Neat job on the work.
Reply:Thanks guys. I don't have a band saw or cut off saw so I had the welding supply shop do the cuts for me. The length on all of the cuts was spot on, but the 4 cuts that were supposed to be 45* ranged some were between 42* and 48*. I just tacked them on with the gap split between the ends as best I could and then filled it in. After some grinding they didn't look too awful bad. I put one end of the piece on the steps and the other on the floor and jumped up and down on it. I weigh in at 235# and the welds didn't even budge. I'm thinking that should be more than enough to hold some wood working power tools. I'll bet those sheet metal cabinets will give way long before that framework does.
Reply:Nice and the flames really set it off
Reply:It looks sturdy. The design is well planned and executed. The flames are cool addition to it.PlasmaCam CNC cutterLathe and Band SawClamps
Reply:That's one great looking and sturdy storage, perfect for your Dad's power tools. Like the finish and the flames really set it off. I bet your Dad loves it. Beautiful work!
Reply:Well here it is almost done. It just needs clear coat now. I'm not too cracked up about how the flames came out. Between the blue color coat and my horrid art skills, they look more like corral. Be that as it may, considering that it's my first real project and it's made as a gift, not for selling, and out of some repurposed parts, it'll do.
