I got mine from my wife for a Christmas present this year, then I snuck off to HF to buy a bunch of other stuff when she wasn;t looking. I grew up with a machinist for a dad, so I know how to weld, only I learned on his buzz box. He can do some amazing things with stick, so I was pretty excited when I got my Mig. I figured I could show him up.. no way. You go up against a guy that has been welding for 40+ years, and hew can weld circles around me, and not ever break a sweat. Here are my complaints. 1. I was welding up the frame of my buddies 76 Blazer today, when I ran out of my first roll of flux core, I looked at the sppol in a machine, and realized there is more friggin plastic on those spools then there is wire!2. When I ran out of wire, I had 10 feed of good wire I ended up yanking out of the gun and tossing... Is it ok to just shove it through will your next roll of wire, or will it tear up the lining of your gun, or worse yet jam in there? Any way not to waste a whole lot of wire?3. I had that little suckercranked up to the d setting with a feed of about 5.  It did ok, for a second, then it kinda started to pulse, I tested the ground, and it was ok, even brushed a new spot clean for the ground to try and get better contact, but it still had a wierd pulse to it.  Is this because of not enough power to the machine? My welds truned out really good, and we took it off road just to test it out (that is what we told the wives) and the welds are good, even ground some down to see how I did, and then re-welded them everything worked like a charm, but should I expect the little gyu to pulse like that now?4. I am going to get some 3 conductor 10 guage SO cord to make a good extension cord since you can;t seem to buy a decent one anywhere. Any ideas on how long is too long? Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Reply:The pulsing you are describing is happening because the wire feed speed is too low.  The wire is melting back towards the contact tip and forming a ball, which then jumps the arc gap making the pulse are experiencing.  Settings like this put you right on the edge of fusing the wire to the contact tip - been there!Up the wire speed and your travel speed...
Reply:Thanks for the reply, I will give it a whirl next time around.
Reply:Bump.Any more input?
Reply:I have tried to run new wire in behind the old to try and push it through.  I didn't work for me, I think you just have to waste 10ft of it every time you get to the end of a roll.  If you were using a 2lb roll that came with it you waste alot because you get to the end of a roll very often.  When you buy the larger 10lb rolls you only waste it after every 10lbs.Also I don't know what you are welding on or exactly what your plusating is, but if I am running too high of a wire speed you can also get the wire to stub into the metal which feels like pulsating.  I think you could be running either too fast wirespeed or too slow.  Play with it and see what you think.
Reply:To max that machine out, use the D tap of course and a wire feed speed of 7 1/2  Also, be sure the low budget wingnut and spring for driveroll tension is adjusted properly MillerMatic 175Thermal Dynamics Drag-Gun PlasmaAirco Bumblebee AC/DC SMAWVictor Super-Range II oxy/act
