I don't know if I should post on projects or the tool thread, but here goes. I will post picture as I go along, but I am making a 9" pedestal disk sander for doing prep grinding. it is made to accept 9 inch sander pads mounted to a 3/4- 1 1/2hp motor. I suppose you could buy one but I like to build what I can. Others feel free to chime in if you have pictures of info on one of your own.
Reply:let's see what you got so far and it will be lot's easier to chime in. what kind of material, wall or floor mount ect...i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:I have no "real" pictures yet. I have the pieces cut and bent, need a bit more time to assemble. But I took a screen shot of the 3-D model. Here goes.Oh sorry made of mild steel and is mounted to a heavy base so I can move about..
Reply:are you thinking about mounting it on casters? if so you will be chasing it all round your shop. are you going to have adjustment on the tool rest brackets to allow for grinding on an angle?  your design only allows for 90 degree profile.Last edited by docwelder; 02-20-2014 at 02:27 PM.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:I am for the time being going to use a heavy flywheel or a truck rim for a base, maybe add wheels later. Same for the work rest, I would like to add a tilt to it after awhile. But I want to get this up and running first I figure
Reply:Too small. You want a 12 incher and you want 1 1/2 hp 3450 or better. If I had a shop again I'd make a 3 hp 18 incher and buy $1000 worth of custom ceramic and zirc stick-on disks. You're only using about 4 inches on a 9 1/2 disk. That's a toy. A six inch is a real joke included with junk belt grinders. If you can steal an old table saw you could build a Burp King. It's like a Burr King, but for men.Last edited by Burpee; 02-20-2014 at 03:42 PM.Bubble gumTooth pixDuct tapeBlack glueGBMF hammerScrew gun --bad battery (see above)
