Hey everyone, I ha e been learning quite a bit here on this forum. I have a stick welder for home/hobbyist use. There is not time/budget for a class right now. I was wondering if you had suggestions for a book for beginners on welding/metal working?  Looking for guides on how to best cut, weld, bend, prep, etc stuff within the scope of a small basement/garage shop. There is a wealth of info here, but a lot is way over my head and budget! Thanks.

Reply:I have a late 1950's copy of the Lincoln Procedure handbook that I got for 50 cents. It's one of my bedside readers. Reply:The automotive and science sections of most barnes and noble bookstores have how-to books like that. I have a few of them, "how to weld" by Todd Bridigum, one of sheet metal fabrication and one on metal working. They all have some interesting useful tidbits here and there. just go and flip through them til you find one you like.Last edited by Jieve; 05-27-2015 at 01:34 AM.
Reply:Keep an eye on the bookshelves in your local second hand stores, you can find good books for almost no money.
Reply:If you can find a copy of Machinery's Handbook, it's a very useful reference on many things dealing with metal working, though much of it is geared towards machining. The book's not cheap, but used copies are fairly inexpensive if you look a bit..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Thanks everyone!  I'll be looking for those.
