Need to stick weld some links of plain steel chain together. Links would be about 1.5" long. Q. is what sort of chain can this be done with. The galvanized stuff commonly sold in marine places wouldn't be a good choice, nor obviously would the chain coated with white vinyl. -Marty-
Reply:You can buy plain, un-plated steel chain at Tractor Supply and some box stores. In this case, the cheaper the better. Higher grades of chain contain high levels of carbon and are more likely to crack when welded.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:as long as your not planning on using this welded chain in a load carrying manner, any cheap hardware store chain should work, most will sell it by the foot or the pound.
Reply:I can't tell you how many endless chains I've welded together over the years to handle wire rope. I always asked of 309 stainless steel rod to make the welds.Dont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
