Yesterday it was nice out but having half a head cold I didn't feel like firing up the charcoal grill, so I broke out the new grill and cooked on it for the second time since I built it over Christmas. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of grilling on gas but this thing sure is handy, and it looks cool   I plan on using it for tailgates, Brewer Games, Packer Games, etc. Not dealing with hot coals after a few beers is going to be nice! And with a few chops on the grill. The whole deal is stainless, and ironically the "grill surface" is out of a 379 Peterbilt. The handle is off of a Freightliner, just drilled the rivets out to take the stainless handle out and put the wood in.
Reply:Looks like a handy set up for sure. You can get an adapter to use standard propane tanks instead of those 1 Lb. bottles if you may do a longer cooking on it. It screws right in to where the 1Lb. bottle does. How come we didn't see this in the projects and pictures section when you were making it? I think your washing machine is over flowing, I see soap suds all over the ground around that little deck.  Better fix it before the wife gets home from work.

Reply:Thanks guy's!  I wish that was washing machine suds... We still have snow on the ground here, about two hours north of us today they got 8" of snow. Thankfully we got rain. When I said it was nice yesterday it was about 38 and sunny, t-shirt weather after the cold we have been used to. Here's a few of the build pic's. I don't think I was a member here when I built it, just read a lot.
Reply:Its a good lookin build. Weather in AZ is 72 and sunny.

Reply:Wait let me get this straight, you're a welder and don't start your grill with a torch?

Reply:This forum is great. Love the talent and friendly conversation here. Nothing like starting fires with the torch, that's efficiency. I used to work with a bunch of welders who would light cigarettes off red hot beads. Bistineau I don't have a lot of welding projects coming up, more machining projects. Another project I finished over winter was to put a new match barrel on the .50bmg. We shoot 1000 yard competition out in Nebraska. The project for this spring is to get a couple wood stocks turned out. Wood is getting cut now. I will have to glue everything up once that's done. From there the blanks get cut and they go on the duplicating machine. There's some small metal parts to get made to bed the action to the stock, just machine time. In the meantime I'm trying to get the Harley back in shape. New polished stainless spokes, tires, and an oil leak in the trans. to fix.

Reply:Never knock a gas grill. The finest steaks at the finest restaurants in the world are cooked over gas...generally very fast over a ceramic burner. If you build another have a look at these burners.Call.They'll sell you parts.http://www.tecinfrared.com/Nice little rig.Bubble gumTooth pixDuct tapeBlack glueGBMF hammerScrew gun --bad battery (see above)

Reply:I will say welcome from Wi again.  Are all kegs stainless?  I Thought the couple I have are aluminum.  But I have not looked that them that close.Carlohttp://public.fotki.com/Naudi2U/

Make sure to torque ALL the fasteners. Harleys tend to vibrate everything loose after awhile. But then you are probably already aware of that.
Reply:I used to feel this way, until I bought a gas grill like 18 years ago. I still have it. One it has cast iron grates, I can get the grates red hot and sear like no ones business. Has 3 racks for cooking veggies, bread etc. I just bring it to the shop, sandblast it, paint etc. I baby the damn thing. Can't buy em like this anymore. Now they're getting cheaper and cheaper.
