We are going to be selling a Millermatic 200 and a Lincoln Arc Welder model AC-225-S.  I was hoping someone here might be able to help me price them.  These were owned and used my my wife's dad but he passed away a few years back.  I'm not a welder, so I may not use the correct terminology in my description. The Millermatic 200 has a serial number JK639584.  It doesn't have a tank other than a rental one that I've got to take back to the rental place.  It is on a cart - I guess they come that way, but anyway it is on a cart.  It has a spool of wire in it and has this information on it:Input:Volts 200/230Amperes 46/40KW 8.3Phase 1Hertz 60Output:Volts 28Amperes 200Duty Cycle 60%Max OCV 42The Lincoln Arc Welder is a model AC-225-S  and has a Code 7050-206By the looks of it, it is much older than the Millermatic.  I saw that it had a 20% duty cycle and was 230 volts.  There was some other information on it but I will need to go back and write it down.It is my assumption that they both still work - her dad did a fair amount of welding over the years to fabricate things and fix things at his business and for his tractor and implements but I never got to talk to him much about it.  He was going to show me how to weld but passed away before we got the chance.I can try to answer any questions people have about these.  I'd like to offer up a fair price when we sell them but since I don't have any experience welding, I'm a fish out of water here.  Thanks for any help you can provide me at arriving at a fair price.Matt
Reply:Matt, the cylinder may or may not be a rental. Small cylinders are usually purchased and swapped out rather than rented. The supply place may not give you the straight dope on this depending on the guy who works there and what questions you asked. If you turn in an owned cylinder the company just made some extra cash on you, as they can easily turn around and sell it to some one else at retail. A pict of the cylinder and some measurements will hep determine the size. If it's a "small" cylinder and they can't show you a lease agreement thats signed, I'd vote that your wife's dad bought it and was just exchanging it to get it refilled. That's the way I've seen almost all small cylinders handled at ever place I've dealt with. Also if it was leased, the supply place probably would have been sending you bills for this for the last few years. Usually they want to get paid for the bigger cylinders regularly. The mig is worth more with the cylinder than with out it. Price wise I can't say for that machine 100%, but $500-800 depending on condition and if if comes with a cyl might be fair. The Lincoln I see used on CL near me from $50-125 depending on condition.Of course you could always keep them and learn to weld. Many tech schools and community colleges have night classes in basic welding. It's also possible to learn on your own. Many have done so. It's a bit harder than having some one show you how, but it can be done, especially with the Millermatic 200 mig. Both machines while older are nice machines and would do well for a hobbyist to learn on..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:The tank is definitely a rental one - we got billed a couple of times for it.  It is a tall tank - more than a foot taller than the welder itself. Thanks for the info. Part of me would like to keep them in the hopes I'd get some time to use them but the reality is that they'd likely sit in the garage for another few years.  Right now having the cash to pay some bills would be helpful.I appreciate your giving me a good price range on the machines. Thanks,Matt
