New machine needed

Hey All, My boss is looking to buy a generator/welder for various projects that we have going on at any given time. He found this one at Nothern tool.  Hobart Champion Elite http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...ssearch=628571Only problem I see with this one is that I don't think we can hook a MIG suitcase or spool gun up to this unit. Can we?The guy at our local welding supply store recomended this unit Miller bobcat 250http://www.millerwelds.com/products/...en/bobcat_250/Problem I see with this one is dosen't look like I can weld A/C with MIG or spool. Is this correct?I'm thinking we need one of those multi units. Is it possible to MIG with a Gen./TIG unit?I guess bottom line is we are looking for a 250-300 amp Generator/ stick / MIG (I'm thinking spool) / TIG unit. Does anyone have any suggestions? Oh I'm assuming he wants to pay around $3000 as that is how much the unit he picked out costs. If it costs more because we get or need different attachments then so be it. Thanks in advance, Pete

Reply:Hmm that's interesting leaves me to use either a Lincoln model which supports Lincoln Engine Driven or Electric Welders with CV Capability power source or Select Miller models.So across the arc is a Lincoln thing that enables one to use any power source?

Reply:WOW!!    I didn't know you can't AC weld with a wire feed. Shows you how much I know, I'm glad I came here.Or another appropriate weld controller / spoolgun combination such as a WC-1 and Spoolmatic-1 that I run off my Bobcat 225G Plus. A contactor is real helpful here to break the arc at the end of a weld while keeping the gas flowing to protect the weld puddle until it solidifies. Otherwise, if you're not careful, the arc will follow the stopped wire back into the gun tip and . . . Does a Contactor come with a WC-1 or Spoolmatic? It's going to take me a few hours to diegest all these models and possibilites.

Reply:The bobcat does not have a 14 pin remote plug like the trailblazer does. That plug is where you plug in the remote (foot pedal or hand controller) to adjust your amperage as you weld, just like you would with a dedicated tig machine. (it's also where you plug in the remote for a standard mig feeder or RC type suitcase). All you can do is set your amps at the machine and adjust the "heat" with arc length and speed. To do AC tig I believe you will  still need to add a high frequency box with either of those machines..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:First off I'd like to thank you all for helping me out as buying a new unit seems to be more confusing than I thought. So what's this WC-24 controller actually do?Here's the description from cyber weld. The Miller WC-24 weld control easily mounts directly on the power source. It is designed for use with Miller CV power sources supplying 24 VAC and 14-pin receptacles. Includes a board-mounted potentiometer that can alter motor acceleration rate to optimize arc starting.A potentiometer that CAN alter motor acceleration rate. Does that mean I MIGHT not need it?Which motor are they speaking of? The roller motor in the spool gun? Is it not adjustable on it's own like a stand alone MIG? does the 15A / 30A spool gun need this as well?
